to follow on from prior posts ...

the 1200 has the RS36's (Mikuni) with standard jetting and is not exibiting any problems, however, I'd like to get a little more scope setting the idle mixture.

As posted before, the setup is essentially idle screw (fuel) all the way in and then ~ 1/2 turn out. This works for me ... get it warm and then individually screw the mixture screw in (to cut-out) and then back out ~ 1/4 to 1/2 a turn. That seems a bit course of an adjustment and I'm used to being able to getting a rough lean / spot on / rough rich adjustment from other carbs (being other Mikuni / Dellorto etc.).

The question is - can you extend the range of adjustment by varying the idle AIR jet?

The standard setup is a 0.8 and I've had mixed results by trying a 1.0 and a 1.2 (expecting to get a broader range of adjustment).

Any thoughts?

The larger air jet orifice will result in a lower air speed across the idle circuit - which I'd have thought will result in it being harder to set up.
Worth trying a smaller one. Higher air speed should give a wider sweet spot.
Or of course Mikuni might know what they're doing when they size the air circuits.

thanks ... that could be the answer, smaller idle air and not larger (waiting for spring season)
