Mirage Cam Cover

Is it possible to remove the cam cover with the engine in situ? It looks like there’s not quite enough clearance although I haven’t removed the tacho drive yet.

You have to jer-jer-jiggle it a bit

Yes it comes off ok, make sure the rev counter drive is releasing it by turning the engine. Sometimes the drive gear drops down and causes problems but not if it is fitted properly.

Eminently possible, after disconnecting the tacho drive. Draw out from the right side, with, as Andy suggests, a little wiggle as the left center projection comes over the cam chain.

It comes off easilly enough if you have RGS or Jota 120 type inlet rubbers/manifolds (easiest is to undo the two allen bolts on the rev counter drive, this also has the advantage of retaining the loose spade to sqaure cable adapter which is inside the outer cable, at that end, and gets lost easilly.
it is harder on the 180's with a solid mount and very often helps if you remove the top of the centre carb, not strictly need, but a massive help if you are removing the bank of carbs, which you should, remove themn first, if it's time to get the cam cover off, then its also time to clean out the carbs, and check them internally.

That'll make them 4C cams, the correct ones for a 'Green Mirage'.

If they have the correct cam wheels.
Otherwise, it is a real mirage.

The problem is getting the cam cover back on, and not dislodging the cover rubber gasket, been so many different rubber gasket profiles over the decades, some good, some terrible. Myself, use a sticky gasket sealant under the rubber to cam recess, not too much, to cause beads bulging into the valve train cavity, when pressed into place. The learned here may have a best profile used for the gasket of choice. j.
