mirage starting

okay, so you have a two magnet set up which is same set up that Volker used on his latter Hall Effect ignitions
was not certain how your unit worked as that trigger in your photo is huge
twin magnets will be set up as 1 x south pole and 1 x north pole, first magnet (South) in the direction of rotation will switch the Hall Effect trigger on as it passes, second magnet (North) will switch the trigger off
doubt that info will help you but at least you now know how the system works

Hello to all who answered, Rubbed the two magnets with earth magnets, fitted flywheel and away it went no problem!!!!!!!!! started it 6 times first time every time. I'm hopeful this is end of problem, will keep you posted. I thank you one and all for your help. Davy

It worked? LOL!

Hurrah for Amateur Science!

I wonder how long it will continue to work?

Let us know.

your  correct Andrew, bikes beginning to fail to engage  sometimes , probably because of constantly starting it with all the problems I had. don't want to put bike on road with this hanging over me. Can you tell me where I can get one and likely cost? I live up in highlands of Scotland, thanks Davy

All you will probably need is the six tiny springs that engage the rollers, Keith in Glasgow will have them in stock.  If not, drop me a line.

Better to attend to such an issue when it starts to crop up.  Once it becomes constant, even more damage may occur, which can and will blow the bill through the roof!

When the starter clutch is apart, check the internal ramp thingy for cracks, the rollers and roller race on the driven gear for wear.  The spring  plungers rarely pose a problem.  Mk I clutches seem to cope fairly well, the Mk II clutches are quite unreliable in comparison.

Springs will wear/collapse prematurely if the engine tends to kick back on starting over a long period.  Often caused by weak batteries.

Sorry Davy, Didn't really intend to wish that on you...  :D

As Piet said, drop Laverdakeith a line and he'll sort you out (as they say.. :-X)

Good to hear the Series 1 motors have something going for them over the S2s then.. :D :D
