Montjuic gear selection

Ok, nearly finished the heinous sin of building a montjuic replica, all built up, S1 cams, Monty  exhaust, jetted up on carbs, runs so long as it's 2500 revs, standard pistons, new rings (as far as I can tell, despite talk of montjuics having  HC piston, they never did, maybe I will be corrected).
Anyway! Couple of problems!
It's seems to be blowing oil from the top, as far as I can tell it's where the bolt that holds the camchain tensioner goes through the head?
Other problem is difficulty selecting gears, gets them eventually.
The workshop manual states the gear selection is maintenance free, any problems are down to worn gears. Then there's a whole page on setting up the gear selector?
Anyone had similar and successfully  sorted the problem, I know it's left crankcase of job, but I want to keep it together for now as it's not registered, and want to get it  MOT tested, so I can apply for reg plate whilst I sort out the last problems.

That bolt has a copper washer.
Montjuics had HC pistons as far as I know, probable some didn't. They are a sort of bitsa after all.
The selector behind the clutch drum can be delicate to set up.

heres my 1.34p's worth

the very very very first, Montjuics, were actually formula 500's sent to the UK, without  seat, and fitted with steel Alpino fuel tanks, and fitted with the super noisy Sito exhauist (which was developed by Slaters using cut down silencers, from an SF, by Graham Binnion) Once here, at Slaters, they were fitted with fairings and seats made by Screen and Plastics in Redditch, so the motors were to formula 500 spec.

As supplied, ex factory the formula 500 was a race bike (and was forming the basis of a 500 Italian race series with the bike as a control unit) but it came with the road lighting apparatus in a separate box so that after a years racing the lights could be retro fitted and the bike sold on. the engine differed from road bikes in several ways (cams pistons) but also including that of a closer first and second gear ratio. It was this type of bike that was used for the first (UK only, always was) Montjuic.

They must have been a dear option because later Montjuics differed and were more closely Alpinos with body/exhaust changes. Consequently cheaper to build and assembled at the factory for UK market alone. Much later on (Mk11's) it is likely that some bikes were delivered to Slaters as bog stock Alpino's and (slightly) changed  to make them into "Monjuics", probably with no engine mods. Hopefully not very many like this.

so what is a Montjuic? pretty much the same as a Jolta, its the bike that is in your possession.

The stock market has just crashed!

That explains all the hype the first bikes got in the UK mags, good info Clem. Crazy fast and ear-bleedingly loud were the headlines, and the pic of the rider with his brain removed and stored safely away from the bike. It was hard to believe a factory would build a bike even more extreme than a Jota but there you go.

They weren't extreme, they were loud.

And more or less half the capacity of other models Laverdas, says something about 4 valve heads maybe, 6-speed box?

Slater said once they were timed at 143mph down Bray hill.
Must have had massive gearing and very close ratio box.
