Hello all, can anyone provide some quick information please. I was trying to get my engine back in the fram this weekend but my engine man has discovered a few problems, I have resolved some of them but still need a little more
The engine was bought as a very trick dismantled unit having lightened and balanced with Carillo rods, new race cams, Ross pistons etc and my engine man has done a lot more work on it since
There was a cam chain with the other new parts when I bought it but just to be safe I bought another new chain from OCT being told that the cam chain from the Zane engines was the same pitch but slightly longer than required, I would need to remove two links
My engine man has come to do the final assembly and measure the valve timing but the cam chain from OCT is exactly the same length as the one that was with the engine which is also the same as one I have checked from a donor road engine
The starter motor has also been a problem, the original starter motor fitted the cases but the mating pinion was a different diameter and consequently pitch. Fortunately I had the starter and pinion off the donor engine. The donor engine pinion and original starter matched perfectly but what the hell is this starter off, see the attached picture showing the differing pinion diameter
Does anyone know the correct number of links or plates in a Mk2 Monty cam chain and the number of teeth on the cam wheels
I am beginning to think I have an assembly of Atlas and monty parts although I am assured this is not the case
If anyone has a procedure to fit the cam chain can you tell me, I know it is a very simple mechanism but I need to short-cut trial and error and get the motor back in the frame, the season is upon us
Congratulations to me by the way, I completed my training day and testing to get my race licence at Oulton yesterday, wobbling around a wet track on my beloved Ducati 996S which has never seen a cloud since I bought it new in 2001 fitted with good but still road tyres was interesting, some of the lads on the course had full wets and tyre warmers. If you are going to do the new ACU race licence course, I can recommend the team from Hottrax and of course Oulton Park which is probably the best circuit in England for bikes, excellent facilities
Your help is welcome as always
Cheers Dave Fitz'
