Just in the middle of doing a cartridge conversion on my 860?s Ceriani forks. I spotted on e-bay a load of Yamaha R1 internal parts and got a load of valving, adjusters etc including some nice small external compression damping adjuster valves for the princely sum of ?3!
As the Ceri?s have a removable lower section I decided I could make a route to the new cross drilled lower cartridge retaining bolt and open the fork drain plug tapping to take the new 12*1mm threaded adjuster . I had to turn the Ceri ?plug? round to give me enough room to drill the 3mm oil supply hole without hitting the angled hole I drilled from the centre outwards. I?m still waiting for a 12*1mm tap to arrive and will need to modify the valve a bit. I?ve got some Marzos to modify later ? but, unless I make some sort of lower chamber, ? I?ll have to have a one size compression damping orifice. ? Regards - Phil

I have no farking clue what you are talking about but it sounds great!
It will be good to see the finished results.

Beat me to it Grant! :D but I m sure it keeps you off the streets Phil!!

If you were discussing what shade of orange to paint them you would have hundreds of responses Phil. Over 150 views and nothing added, classic.
And yep, I haven't the foggiest idea either, but I will stay tuned in.
Cheers

Hi Phil,
Nice work, hopefully your be able to find a setting where the front end dives in a controlled and complement way.
Interesting first ride, you going to try a 5wt oil initially?

Not sure about grade or levels of oil yet - I've got 3 spring rates to play with as well - so as someone has already said "it'll keep me off the streets" - but will have a good testing ground as the roads seem more potholes than tarmac ATM - Regards - Phil

Nice!
Is the cartiridge rod 10 or 12mm? and is the cartridge 20 or 25mm?
How about the space for the springs, do you need short springs on top of the cartrigde or do they fit in between (doubtly)?

A bit cheaper than a maxton conversion and you know what parts in it.

Hi Thomas - The cartridge rods are 10mm diameter and the cartridges are 23mm - they are CBR1000 - I've got a few Honda sets and an R6 setup - the forks all came from accident damaged bikes on E-bay - the stanchions were bent - but not enough to affect the internals - all were very cheap - probably around ?30 a pair - I even got a pair of cartridges with top caps etc for about a fiver.  I had springs made in the uk (340mm) - with 3 different rates - they were far less cost than buying a big brand name type. I've been in contact with Crispin who is working on a similar idea - he said the forks must be absolutely straight - just checked mine and one stanchion had a 2mm runout - so I just made a nice nylon adaptor for my press and now it's got no runout at all! I'm hoping to get the bike finished soon - with a standard motor so that I can get it registered - so will report on how the forks work - I hope they will be a big improvement on standard ones - but I'll have to wait and see - Regards - Phil

Hi Ian - Have decided what I want - just finding out if they will make them in the length I require - of course, me being me, they wont be silly money but equally as good at the job required as any top notch unit.  :D :D - Regards - Phil
