Moto witt again

It is a DMC I, at least 25 years old by now.  If it is still in working order, it is a far better option to the stock ignition set-up.  As the DMC I system uses the stock pick-ups, chances are these will have issues, even though the box itself may be OK.  Lots of info to be found, the search button is your friend.

yes, as Piet says, it is a DMCI (or better: 1.1, as there was an initial series in silver I think; had one of them on a bike that I owned for some months).

Mostly, the issues with the pickups are really issues with the cables of the pickup (or better: their insulation; often cracked, which leads to wrong signals and interfearance with the other pickups). Can be improved with new cables, soldered in roughly 1 cm from the pickup.

The difference of the two systems (original vs. DMC) is that the original system has a switch-point where it goes from late ignition to early pre-ignition all of a sudden. The DMC constantly alters the pre-ignition depending on the revs. improved idle, better throttle response, better torque in low- and midrange.

The only downsides I can see are that with a bad battery (low voltage), the DMC cuts off to safe the computer from damage and - over time - they seame to age a bit and some produce faults. Mine though runs since 1992 or 1993 faultlessly, sooo....

Tnx  Guys

I will put it up in my test rig and see if it wakes up, Its been i storage in the "Electrical-box" least for the last 25 years, and when I bought the latest Lav 1000 120 that got the stock Ignition I remebered tho 1983 boxes and found this
I will check if its possible without to much fuzz to put a Microsquirt in place ( got one or two of these) use a opto or a VR sensor and 36-1 wheel and use 3 Audi COP coils = very slim power consumption

Does anyone know about a better  Alternator/generator . . like 500 W something?

first of all: there are different Models (software) of the DMC. You can not interchange 180? and 120? models as the curves and programms are different I think. make sure it is suiting your bike by contacting Uwe Witt with the pic of the box, he should be able to say what it is.

Second: what do you need 500W for, please??  :o Unless you ride the bike in the dessert during Paris-Darkar where you put big additional headlights on or plan to carry a satelite TV with you or similar, the maximum needed is something like 200 - 250Watts. Big improvement can be made by a set that Red in Australia used to produce. That one is something like 250 - 300Watts. Not sure he sells them anymore, but also not sure they work with the original Pickups. You might need to purchase an Ignition set from him, too, including a special version of the Ignitech (full programmable ignition box from czech republic).

Well This Box is for  a 120 ...atleast it came with  the 120 I bought ..
And I got a test rig for setting all up all stuff to see the  ( megasquirts) sensors and toothewheels  injectors work, ususally crimping all ends also , before I put in the car /motorcycle ,,
at least You know it works(ed) on the bench :D

500 w alternator/gen ,, If I can get the microsquirt to  work as an ignition unit  ,it already capable of doing the injection to , the thing here is , it proberly use as much a 20 A for Fuelpump ,injectors , and ECU , atleast it is its demand in a FUSE

and the ND Gen delivers  about 260W = aprox 21 A  and change,    and thats a  bit to little if you want to use headlights and so on

The plan was to use Ducati  in tank fuelpump/filter ,  next week I going to check out a Ducati dealers warehause o see if  I can spot any useful gen , Iknow the Ducati uses S4 ND gen also ,and it looks pretty darn close ,, and its  550W
For now

Stock ND alternator is plenty big enough to power FI ancilleries.  Had one running nicely back in the 1990s.  Not much hardware to be had at the time, so we had to build it all ourselves.

DMC will not work with 36 -1 inducer.

Bikes have been running FI and all the ancillaries to make it work for 3 decades+ on pretty std ND 250w alternators. I've never heard of anyone ascertaining potential working amperages by adding up the numbers on the collective fuses!

You guys have lost me. No idea what a 36 -1 inducer is. Is it some kind of ignition pickup?

Cam,

It is a toothed rotor with one tooth missing to give a definite signal.  Very common in modern fuel management systems.  Some newer DMC types for triples are supplied with a 12 -1 rotor.
