Finally the MotoGP comes 'home' and we get free-to-air on Ch10. They stopped televising all races about 4 years ago but I think the Australian gov't have a stipulation that major events must be screened on free-to-air. Yay!

What a snorker of a race! MM making it even more entertaining by dragging his arse back from 13th after a burnout on the line. I was very happy for him getting the win - he's certainly paid his dues with about three years in the dark hole of endless crashes. Pecco will be REALLY looking fwd to having him as a teammate next year - on the same top level bike!:ROFLMAO:

Having ridden the track it's fantastic seeing the telemetry and realising just how insanely fast they are going ... 230kph through Stoner Corner (Turn 3). Fuk me, it feels fast going in there flat out on my SFQ stepthru! Such an incredible track.

Tearoffs have caused plenty of hassles in the past. How many of them are left blowing around the place?
Reading the motomatters.com weekend and race report it really does sound like an un-boring race like some have been.
Toprak put all the doubters in their place in SBK too, bloody good to see, the guy is unreal and for sure BMW would not have expected the #1 plate straight up.

They had a big crack down a while back in The Tour De France about stuff being discarded during racing. I guess it's time to come up with something with this as well. Do I have a fuzzy memory about something similar happening with a tearoff and an engine air intake recently as well? I googled it, its happened more than once.
  • Jack Miller
During the Misano 2 Grand Prix, Miller's Ducati sucked in a tear-off that covered the air filter, forcing him to retire from the race.

    Fabio Quartararo
Quartararo's tear-off was also sucked into an engine, forcing him to retire from a race.

Its common in muddy MX races to use an electrically powers roller system that winds a fresh section of clear strip across your helmet visor. Not so good though if it rains as water can get under that strip. Shourly the helmet companies could come up with a simple foolproof way of doing this.

I doubt it, Pecco may be able to learn a few pointers from MM if he can keep up. Could it be the Gressini bikes are better than the current Factory specials? PI is a fantastic venue/track, albeit the only venue I was ever stopped and asked to blow into 'the bag', and scored all zeroes.

I think there’s been some talk that the ‘23 Ducati is a little better in high grip conditions. So where were the other ‘23s?
Good weekend except for all the mud if you wanted to walk around. And ‘cheap’ piss starting at $12 per can!!!!

i chose to stay home and watch it from the couch  i also dig the onboard camera stuff and the telemetry. I would actually like to experience a moto hitting 350kph on that straight one day. Unbelievable.

Yep it’s gone to shit trackside…….you would be much better off attending a Bears meeting!
Even got Laverda’s to perve on! They also go like stink and sound glorious! 😎

Yeah well would love to experience that! Going to Brizzie on Thursday for a week, then back to NZ in time for a BEARS meeting in Timaru I think.

Well that’s an awesome offer! Would love to see your setup and the amazing engineering you do. Not sure of the exact program, will be staying on Sunny Coast most of next week but can probably wangle a car. Might have a couple of days time-out. Will pm about it.

Where are you staying on the Sunshine Coast? Might be able to catch up.
Cheers,
Barry.

Rode down on the RGA with Craig on his SF2 and Niel on his Thruxton 1200, about a 1500km round trip. Riding days were ace weather, absolutely perfect, a late start and a failed battery (new SSB, avoid!) en route saw us only making Yarram on the first day just on dusk and quite tired. Good to meet up with the rest of the group there and have a nice night at the country club.
Just a short run on Thursday morning with a long breakfast at Foster and on to the campsite on Turn1 where we set up the mega tent. Richard (Spondon Jota owner among others) organises an awesome camp with a trailer stacked with an ex-US army MASH style tent which shrugs off the worst that the Island weather can throw at us, along with full catering, coffee machine, TV for race replays and lots more. Makes it a great event.
We were fully set up by the time the weather worsened, so the rain on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning was of no great concern, my own camping tent stayed dry as with all my gear, so all good there.
I don't really go to necessarily watch the racing, but we walked a lap of the track on Saturday watching from various points and met up with Shane from the VIC lav club which was nice. Also caught up with Ian D on Sunday, always a pleasure to chat things technical with him.
Race day was cool but lovely weather and we were first at the gate ready for the charge to turn 1 to nab our favorite spot. Super impressive watching them all pile into Turn1, Martin was especially awesome to watch, leg flailing about at 300-plus piling into the corner. You also get a good view of everything from the exit of 2 through to hayshed from there, and for the rest there's the big screen right in front of us - ace.
Home trip was a more balanced 400-ish each day with a nice overnighter at Marlo Hotel where the Snowy River meets the sea. Final day up the Bonang Highway from Orbost to Delegate which is another bucket list road with 105km of twists and turns with absolutely nothing there - all tarmac now too.
Great weekend, and an event still well worth attending. pi2024.jpg
