Motorcycle Licensing in Canada !

Holy Shit my 1st street bike was a 66 BSA 650 Lighting Vs a Norton 500 Manx - We were both teen Sheep Herders around Cooks Town and wondered off to Wassaga Beach on a Sunday afternoon with our Mopeds. He dumped through a Ceder Fence after a hay wagon blocked him off with his head down a Ground Hog hole and I dumped the BSA on a Go Cart track. We both made it back home safe with a few bruses - Neither of us were SPECIFIC Licensed Motorcyclists but all you needed was a drivers License at the time. Come to think about it, I never was a legal licensed Motorcyclists even though I had a D License which included 5 ton Trucks, Motorcycles and School Busses. Then the Ministry issued me a G License which did NOT include a M License for Motorcycles - WTF - After riding and insuring motorcycles for over 30 years ?

Right Now at my age I don't care about if I ran Outlaw for awhile but WTF ?

Actually I did apply for my M Class but failed to report for the road test because my job was 1000 miles away and I never bothered - Besides I was married with kids and my wife did not want me to ride- Little did she know after she decided to leave - I had to fire up the SF as an Out Law.

Lost a lot of handing skill for that SF after all them years but I did manage another 8 years riding with another outlaw Harley 1300 FLH Buddy ;o)

He would not allow me to mount his ride and refused to mount my ride (To Scary he said) but I did ride a 1976 Harley AMX 850 Skirster for a awhile in the mid 70's and I really liked it in the city of Toronto - Dependable Smooth Silk Torque. MY 70 Breganzie SF0 was rather explosive and faster if you had the Balls to handle her racing the streets of Toronto after midnight - Been there did it. Jap bikes shift 3 times and you can do it First Light to Light and beat them ;o)

At the end gotta say that Chinese Girl on a 650 Suzuki was Queen. Followed that Suzuki to her stable and she slammed the door in my Leprechaun face - She could not loose me following her home at 4am. The thing was I had another 3 to 4 hours hours through the Cambrian Shield at night on old HWY 69 just to get myself home. Never went back to Toronto to street race after that. I did not know she was Chinese but I could see the rider was a Girl and I was supper impressed by her riding skills. She lost every street racer on the Toronto streets that night except for me. No matter how many times she shifted that Suzuki she could NOT run away from my SF through the night of street racing in Toronto. We were side by side at every red light WTF ;o(

No Way you can ride Outlaw today Car or Motorcycle. Camera's at every intersection and in between report your plates to the COP's ;o(

What really gets me that after riding Motorcycles for decades and still alive and not injured (To a Point) is that you have to spend tonnes of money to prove you can ride a motorcycle, obey traffic rules, stay alive and not risk others - Gotta say our young Motorcyclists have a lot to learn if they dare to post something like this at my age ;o)

How was that bottle of wine??

Don’t know how relevant this is but a mate of mine got his licence back from DVLA after change of address and no motorcycle entitlement- I always check mine whenever it’s been away.
I did hear this was happening a few years ago when renewing their licence and some even had to re take their test!!.......doesn't surprise me in these days of total incompetence.......always take a copy before sending is a valuable lesson learnt.

Same incompetence happens here. Mind you, I do know a young Kiwi lady who had a full motorcycle license (but not car) who moved to the UK. When converting her license she was issued one with bike and car! Bonus!

When upgrading my truck license, I paid for a coarse and during the driving test, the manual truck I was driving shit itself. The rest of the coarse was done in an automated truck.

After completing the course I went to the transport department to get my new upgraded license.

The young girl at the counter did all the paperwork, took a new picture of me and handed me my new plastic license.

I was just about to walk off and looking at the plastic license showed Automatic heavy vehicles only, no motorcycle and no boat license. Whoa …..

I said to the girl there were a couple of issues. Which she addressed, and I got my bike license back, and when questioned about the automatic only truck license, she said because I completed the $2000 coarse in an automated manual truck that is all I could legally drive.

I pointed out that my earlier license was Open, meaning could drive a manual or automatic truck.

I asked to speak to her boss, eventually they saw sense and duly fixed up my license. Except, again, no boat license on the plastic card. FFS, again, they had to address it and make my third license for the day.

Incompetence of State Government Departments on display to the max.

Computer generated Chris - all the probs stem from this. Lucky for you they listened and saw sense - some aren't so lucky when it comes to bureaucracy.

Motor vehicle licences and boat licences are a separate in Tassie. Administered by different Government departments who probably don't talk to each other. I also had a forklift licence years ago that was another plastic card. But I lost the card so I can't prove I was licenced. No big deal as I don't have a need to drive a forklift these days.
