Just splashed out £18 on a two part silicone putty ear plug kit. My usual Rhubarb & Custards have been making my ears ache & ring a bit so I’m giving these a go. Massage two types of putty together for a minute then push into your ears and sit in complete silence for 15 minutes. Interestingly they give you enough for three plugs ( final frontier?) I suppose if you mess one up. Just after they were in I pushed my letter stamps in to give me an R & an L so I don’t mix them up. I’ve also fitted some foam inserts to the ear cavity’s of my Davida open face lid, I’m sure the wind whistles down the Chanel where my sunglasses arms go. Anyway the plugs fit nicely and don’t fall out but more importantly they aren’t pushing on my ear canal so hopefully I’ll be more comfortable.
If I buy another kit I will have enough left over to make another two sets.

Seriously though, that's interesting post back how they are on the road...got to be better than the yellow 3M disposable ones I use 😎👍
 
Been through 2 sets of these, professionally done by the Blacktown Ear Mould woman.Way better comfort-wise than typical earplugs. Easy 8 hours and no ear pain. Mine have the Sound System wires to run GPS and music. Works very well; one pro tip: my left one is Orange and the right side is green, which saves looking for tiny Ls and Rs
Since phones now dont have 3.5mm headphone jacks, you can use the charging plug on your phone plus an adapter to plug in simultaneously to charge and receive sound to your earplugs. Best of both worlds: no wind roar plus clear music that doesn't require high volume.

Out last night with em and they are comfortable & I would say they don’t give you that numb swimmers ear feeling that expanding foam ones do. They are not so air tight so don’t pop when you take them out, but feel quite big in your ear. I used my Davida that you pull the straps to fit on your bonce and they did catch when I took the lid off, which made my ears hurt! I’m going out today with a different lid and bike to get a better idea but so far I think they are more comfortable and maybe 10% less efficient noise wise- mind you I was caning the Guzz which does sound like a Lancaster bomber!
 
While I'm all in favour of making things myself. Earplugs, like tyres, I prefer to buy in.
I've been using these, from Ultimate Ear, for more than 10 years. Currently on my second pair, they recommend replacement after four years and offered me a 20% discount on my second set.

They are vastly superior to anything I used previously and constructed to allow non-harmful frequencies through.
At first, I was surprised to hear conversations of pedestrians on the pavement/sidewalk and it's quite a shock to feel the noise levels riding without them.
They are moulded to my ears and I've ridden all day, many times, with no discomfort.

Ask anyone with hearing loss or tinnitus what it feels like?
You might have to repeat the question a couple of times!

Cost is a lot cheaper than a helmet visor and I wouldn't ride far without that!

If I get on with my DIY ones I’ll go down this route
 
Love my Moto Safe plugs. A two-set, one for track and a more efficient pair for road. I definitely can't afford to lose any more hearing. Years of playing in bands - and riding without earplugs!! You really do know it when you forget to put them back in after you've had them in for long road miles.
 
The first time I used earplugs was a coast ride to Meolbane around 1990, 1000ish ks. Pulled into a Hardwear Shop around Eden, I couldn't believe how peaceful it was and how I didnt have a low-grade headache from constant wind roar at the end of a long day. Never rode without them since.

Have just done the same Paul, I like the look of these so thanks for the link.......have never used ear plugs on the bike but have thought about it for a while,lets see how we get on with them.

I chose those because they claim a 25 dB noise reduction, which is huge.
On verra.

Recently had two sets made my Earmild WA - one set with speakers fitted and one without. Brilliant items with great noise reduction. Feels a little funny having squishy stuff injected into the ear and can be a little cuddly to get in (and out) but cannot fault the fit. Can sleep in them too. Should have done it years ago….!
 
I think most of us realise at some point that 'we should have done it years ago', Rob! I did get a pair of plugs quite some time ago after a free hearing test at Uni, but one fell apart almost the first time I used it and that was that. The other thing I found then was how it seemed to change my perception of speed - i found myself going into corners too hot. A weird sensation - have adapted without probs nowadays.
