mounting engine on frame

32 yrs ago I did this. So everything is off engine (starter, generator, carbs) Then the engine should balance on floor jack @ oil filter? Anything else I should know?

I start with the engine laying on blocks of wood, leaning well forward, on a four wheeled trolley which can manouvre it into place for the lower rear bolts to be slotted in, then lift/jack/ratchet strap it up for the other mounting bolts to go in.

That's pretty much how I do Ducati engines.

Dunno what bike Evan is talking about. Presume it's not a Laverda triple if he's starting with the engine sitting on a floor jack.

Paul, I think he wants to MOUNT the engine to the frame, not take it out...

Did the same with the SF(0) Engine: put it on a jack, leaning a bit forward. lift it up until you can mount the rear screw holding the engine, then lift the front further and plug in the others at the top - done. 750's are so easy...

if it is a 1000 engine, best is to have a second person helping and a lot of rubber hoses protecting the frame...

mount-dismount
vice-versa

Like those fabulous manuals that spout garbage like ... 'fitment is reverse of dismantling' ... yeah, right, like fitting pistons, rings, building cranks!!!

I don't mean your post, Paul - wioth the motor in an SF it is actually done that way.

Isn't it best with triples to use a bed and lower the rolling chassis over the motor while it is sleeping in the foetal position?

no, the best is to strip the chassis completely down, else you have to put 100 kg over 90 kg...  :D

but yes - exactly the way I put the 1000 SFC engine back into the (bare) frame. Took less than 5 Minutes. Forgot though Piet's hint to first mount the center stand...  >:( Much easier on the bare frame...

I do like vice but I'm not averse to a bit of versa.

I used a workshop crane together with a leveller/balancer crossbar. With this it was possible to turn the motor out of the horizontal position and e.g. just lift it at the front. Was easy-peasy in the end!

I guess though that Evan isn't asking for help wrt a triple ?

Cheers

Simplest and easiest way to change / fit or remove any engine from any vehicle is to

Get someone else to do it!
Jules  :D

That my friend is a dam good question to be honest ... so the best way I?ve seen ( and used to put into play to be honest when a wee bit younger but old age and weary bones have caught up with me over time ) is to straddle the bike with the tank off of course and lift up and tilt out.....
but now days this is not my preferred method anymore ...
great job that this has not been previously discussed on the forum here  :D as that poor old search button deserves it?s well earned rest ....
