music in the shed

Agreed on Meg, as i understand it Jack took Megs surname "White" going forwards to this day. One can only hope he treated her fair in time, though am uncomfortable given her disappearance and due accreditation in absentia. he is talented, even better when surrounded by others whom make the songs work. Clip of him with Wanda Jackson, late night show, a mixed outcome. j

Self absorbed ( great band name as i typed it, wince ), 300km round trip to pickup latest mood swing, Celtic 31 string harp, made by Australian harp maker in local hardwoods. Really want a Gothic 36 stringer, this Celtic will get me started. Seems to be holding tune, the load on the upper beam to sound board is well over half a ton of tension... mind boggling. Of course now the most sort of all, Hurdy Gurdy! The quest will not cease... lot of Hurdy Gurdy machines in Europe, one frenchman has eye watering beautiful electro Hurdies.... possible made by him. So a new skill in the play, pitiful pun...j.

Keeping that in tune must be a challenge!

cheers

...plenty of practice Barry, 114 strings in all, can and do go "walkies" even as you perform, if atmospherics are changing as you play. The 21 Chord is most played, Green Sleeves a toughy for me. j.

Stumbled across "Green Clouds" Italian lasses of much skill and all encompassing sounds, slick at times ( maybe a tad too much ) though i like the vib and groove. j

Not for all, at great personal status risk, pretty low already, whats to lose, more of an informative "how a gurdy actually works when played" type video. Followed by Efrin Lopez and his equally gifted gals, making it all work as one, j.

Not Girls Talk, at all.... dont forget your Valentines messages/efforts lads, much good will ensue... sent off 8 this morning, shallow albeit, credentials enhanced all the same, j
There is so much more to Dave Edmunds than this. Sure, It kicked off his record contract. Self Produced at early age 'I hear You Knocking' too. I have been amazed every time I hear something he has been involved in. Collabs with George, Ringo, Paul, down from there. Nick Lowe (Another favorite of mine), Billy Gibbons, Jeff Lynne (not at top of my list), on and on. The guy pulls of Chuck Berry tunes as though he wrote them himself. Produced the first Stray Cats album. Many others. The only positive thing I can say about Google is the their YouTube (I think it's theirs) is that it has allowed me to discover abovementioned. Recording contracts prevented this guy from the exposure he deserved. I wish I has discovered all this decades ago.

Good lookin' 6120 behind the harp. Love my Setzer variant. Can't believe it's 25 already!

I wonder if Godley and Creme based their Gizmo on the operation of the hurdy gurdy? Alluded to in the following video, around 2:04.

Taking many the liberty today, take my Pearl Rhythm Traveler drum kit for house band use and the walk ups, at various open mics.." dont bash my drum kit trying to sound like a Slingerland kit Bill Ward doing Paranoid..." Ok.... bash bash bash, the rim tension screws back off, almost wrecking the batter skin, not battered fish for the non drummers, wince.

Using a dab of 242 threadlocker when resetting the tension ring retainer screws, Quentin will have a perspective... i hope. BTW bought the DrumDial for knockdown ( hey pun...yes i know ) price, as he could not get the spindle to locate in the dial gauge body, he forced it and burred the shaft shoulder, no hope to get it in after that. My gain, mechanical skills save money...grin. J The brass plate is my zero calibration jig.

Is that 'machine' on the drum head a tuner???

Not a lot of lugs on that snare(?) Jon. Pinch hitters and rim shots are gonna loosen those pronto. My bewdiful 1978 Yamaha 9000 Pre-Recording Custom had nylon thread inserts lengthways on every lug ... except the snare , oddly, but it was a 10-lug drum. Still used to loosen a lug or two when I was playing hard enough to shred sticks on the rim, but generally very stable. These days my sticks last years ... and my hearing hasn't become any worse ... since the hammering it used to get!

Yes Quentin, would be drummer big toe i qualify as, or no. Never at anytime has the instrument been the limiting factor, have 3 drum kits, the snare above from the Pearl kit is a very portable quick setup smaller kit, mic the kick and maybe some overhead. As you indicate, loud is not required for musical days performed. The Sonor full size is nice, Chinese Sonor that is. Indeed your Yamaha is top class, Jane my once drummer singer bought a Yammy kit, mid size and she/drum kit sounded wonderful.

Tah for the indication of why the tension fasteners are backing off, see if the loctite will mitigate that constant problem. The DrumDial measures actual skin deflection, more the matter of consistent tension across the batter head in this case. Akin to some "tune" their carbies by ear or instruments by others, am and will always be the latter. Not like i will be a real drummer, though can step in at the type of gigs these days, not having a proper band and gigs, you start on the downward slope that age imposes for live performances, still i get to keep the mental facilities going unless too much water logs the brain.

Back to the usual fare on the forum, just like a ride, has detours of merit. j

Love this mob, Ukraine harmonies.... love the signals to the foldback tech...one wants the cello up the middle gal wants it down...love it... probably know to the clever lads here already. Other great groove clips also from this lot. j

Real bass too Sock, tah. Gerald, there is a Tower of Power song with a demanding relentless driving bass line, no idea with my recall as to which, you may know? j. *** has Tony run away or not paid his power bill, notable these days.

Heading out with the bike after almost 2 months of winter and salt on the roads.

Saw Tower of Power live at a local venue a couple of years ago - absolutely awesome gig. To be able to see them basically in a pub was really something. I watched a vid about the band and David Garibaldi (drummer) raves about the bass player (shamefully can't remember his name!). They drive that band like a supercharged V8 ... the bassist is indeed incredible.
