Audi: yes, VW: maybe, Skoda: no. They trickle the tech down from Audi to VW to Skoda and the others. I quite like the fact that the Skoda's VAG hand-me-down bits are generally workhorse rather than bling - no 5 x camchain V6s, but a diesel engine that will last for decades (Piet's has 450,000km from memory), but has the modern pull like a bull performance that VW generated in their turbo diesels. I don't complain about getting 950+km from 50L of fuel. Absolute worst is stop start (think lockdown, 5km radius limit) is about 600km from same. If it was permitted it would cruise on 160-180kph all day too. I held it steady on 160 one day in the middle of outback NSW and it was registering 8.5L/100 (four people on board). I still shat myself that a cop would be coming the other way even though I could see the horizon and not a tree in sight!!
