My dilema!
I bought a set of ND Laverda clocks off a chap in the UK a while back, unfortunately they took a beating in the post and the Speedo was smashed/squashed.
I have managed to straighten the internals out and it will work without any needle juddering.
I have enough parts from these clocks and a set of Honda ones to make a decent pair, (rubber parts, glasses, etc) and it is easy to obtain new faces and crimp rings to make that a possibility.
I know that I can send them to a few different places for total refurbishment, thank you those that have reccomended places, it is much appreciated and it has even been suggested that I just buy some used ones as there are plenty out there in the big wide World, ("really!")
Anyway, my dilema, the part of the speedo that I am having difficulty repairing, is the odometer, (not the trip) that part took a real pasting and is virtually useless, (as well as having numerals missing from the dials, it was like that when they turned up though) as they will not index properly. I have tried finding this set of dials from other instruments, Honda ND ones, as well as from the later plastic binnacle type, but even though I can make them fit, the numbers run in the wrong direction and would count downwards, not up.
As I said, I could send them away for repair, but I can't afford that option and I have the ability to rebuild them myself anyway, "if!" I can get the parts I need.
So, my question is, has anyone got an old mashed speedo that has a useable odometer in it? If so and you would be prepared to part with it, an OAP can get a bit further down the path on his rebuild.
MPH or KPH, It isn't important, I can convert the difference easily, the only other alternative I can see is to leave it static and just use the trip for fuel calculation purposes, it isn't a legal necessity in the UK after all, but it would be nice to have it working for many other reasons.
