I have read lots of starter threads here but I wanted my own, so there
I noticed over the past week that the starter (SF2) has been slow to kick in when I press my magic button, then last Sunday I stalled at a set of traffic lights 50 yards from where we had set off from and it didn't want to go at all, nothing, nada. bumped it and she started right off.
So far I have done the following.
Stripped the motor out and cleaned allround, bushes are nearly new, resolderd the connection to the second bush, gently cleaned the copper stripy bit that the bushes run on with 800 W/Dry.
remounted it but didn't connect the starter clutch, still nothing apart from getting the lead from the battery to the relay hot and even the battery to frame earth lead hot.
today I stripped the motor out again and stuck it in a vice at work and put a starter pack across it, at first it didn't want to know but a second go and WHOOO off it went, all good I thought.
got an extra long earth lead on the way home and connected it direct from the starter mount bolt to the battery but when I tried it on the bike still didn't want to know ... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
changed the solenoid for a spare, no help
tried direct from the battery... nothing but a BIG spark
Double triple checked that all the connections are clean.
am I missing something.
