Narrow and wide frames on 750s

I've never found any of the 750 frames lacking in what they were meant for. Most handling issues are down to set-up/maintenance... and tyres and their pressures.

Take to a race track on a GT and you're bound to run into shortcomings. :rolleyes:

Depends how you ride.
The handling becomes more accurate until the final SF1/2 type frame. The frame progressively got nearer the engine and as it did, handling became more precise. Not to mention the brace across the swing arm behind the engine. The swing ram was more flexible before that.
When I ride my S after my SF2, I feel as though I'm perched higher up.
The disc brake SFC is another world altogether. Low and rigid.

Should actually be other way round, Paul. The later frame positions both the engine and seat a bit higher than previously. Lots of subtle changes to the SF1> frames; wheelbase, steering angles, etc. Main stand lengths alone are testimony to different heights.

Short, brace-less swinger was fitted to GTs only afaIk. Reckon it was mainly to keep the wheelbase within limits in conjunction with the flat steering angle.

Early S had non braced swing arm as well. Unless the one I know isn't original.

The GT seemed really at home on the mountainous roads around Breganze at the anniversary recently.

Very upright riding position means great visibility, very comfortable, loads of leverage on the wide bars to tweak your trajectory as required, lots of low grunty torque to blat out of bends. So well mannered you can start opening the throttle just past mid-corner and it’s quite happy 😊

Also, for what it’s worth, I found the front Grimeca to be excellent. Lots of feel and very predictable.

I'm very pleased with the Grimeca front on my S as well. It's even brutal at low speed.
I suspect however that it would fade into oblivion in case of spirited downhill riding in the mountains with a lot of hairpins.
It's also labour intensive as I found out on a trip to eastern France a couple of years back. The brake wouldn't release properly due it turned out to brake dust in the brake cam spindles.
A friend more used to drum brakes than I cured the problem until we got home by giving the return springs some assistance in the form of a bit of inner tube attached to the outside brake arms.
