Need educating

Hi guys, I'm hanging around and reading as much as possible before taking the big leap and purchase my first Laverda, so can someone educate me a little on the differences between a Jota, Mirage as well as a 3CL. My understanding is that the Jota has more performance parts.
Cheers all.

The triples started with the 3C, wire wheels and drum front brake. That morphed into the slightly later 3C with front disc and oil cooler. Then the 3CL with cast wheels, add Hi comp pistons and hotter cams and a big bore exhaust and you have a Jota. Sometime in the middle of all this they produced the 1200. That's it in a nut shell. Brisbane is the hot bed of Laverdas in Oz, most visit a shed up there some time. There is heaps of nit picking around the details and I bet that's about to happen here.

3CL = 1,000 Triple '76 model with cast wheels (from Sep '75) on
Jota = (I could write something as long as 'War and Peace', on this one, but briefly):
The above, fitted with 4C cams, hi comp pistons and baffleless resonators (Jota "silencers") and 'Jota' stencilled (later badged) on the side panels, initially by Slater Bros. but, later by the Factory. There was no additional "magic touch" difference between a 3CL and a 'Jota'.
Many 3CLs were sold as 'Jota', merely by the addition of a name on the side panel.
Mirage (Green) = A 1200 with the same additions: 4C cams, hi comp pistons and baffleless resonators (Jota "silencers") and 'Mirage' stencilled (later badged) on the side panels.
That should clear things up, but won't.

you forgot the 3CE, this truly was the for runner of the Jota
it was the 3C with wire wheels, 4C cams, H/C pistons, open exhaust, and SFC yolks, factory rear sets were on most, if not all. OK so it was a UK bike but easily identified as Slaters stamped an extra 3 digits onto the chassis number these being 3CE and stamped at an angle, sloping downwards crammed between LAV.1000/1 and the first star

OP didn't ask about them, nor Corsas, Clem.
Dave Minton's seminal 'The English Way' article 3cEDave Minton 'The English Way' Laverda 3cE.jpg (photograph attached), has the same rearsets as mine

not only green Mirages had HC pistons, and not all green ones head them, and some that were "said" to have them but probably didnt, they were a factory option, so if you bought new and to special order.....................

The Green one did, as above.
But, in the main (ask Clem), the silver TS didn't.
The green mirage doesn't have high compression pistons, they are 8:1. I know this because I have owned a genuine series 1 Slater Mirage for the last 40 years, 1979 bike, second owner.

All triples share many basics, the evolution was slow but steady. The less-performance oriented models are pleasant to ride once properly set up, the hopped-up editions are more able to hold their own against far more modern machines but can be a bit rougher to get along with. All are very capable machines, you can't go much wrong with any of them, if in decent condition.

Be aware that models differed from market to market, depending on local regulations. After all, it's only badges and decals... you might find a Jota-badged bike with completely stock internals. Almost any performance enhancement can be applied to almost any model, just a question of money. ;)

and in America, back in the day, there were quite a lot of red RGS bikes painted black and wearing Corsa badges
