Need some help with a Laverda

Greetings! I am currently helping the widow of a former customer sell off some bikes after he passed away.

I specialize in old British motorcycles, so Italian stuff isn't really my thing.

The title says 1979 Laverda, but I haven't been able to pin down a model for this bike. Seems like it might be a bit of a miss mash.

Yes, a bit of a mish mash but looks to be mostly a USA model "Jota". In USA the "Jota" model was based upon the milder "1200" 1116 cc motor where the rest of the world got various levels of more highly tuned "1000" motors. It then has some lower bodywork panels added that look they came from the later 1200TS model, the fairing and front mudguard came from somewhere else. Swingarm and fork brace are aftermarket, lost its original airbox somewhere along the way.

All in all, if it runs well, likely to be very attractive to somebody seeking a largely original Laverda triple.

I was thinking the fairing and sidepanels came off one of these. Is that fairing a Laverda item or just a common period aftermarket? The front fender I have seen in a few pictures but I'm not sure what it came off of.

A good place to start online for model identification information and parts lists is Wagner, Laverda Paradies

Yes, the fairing is standard Laverda for the 1200TS and later Mirage models matching the engine cover panels but without those upper mounted turn signals.

The matching engine and frame numbers would allow getting an accurate build date though a US model should have a manufacturer date plaque on the headstock right side.
 
I’m not as high in knowledge as many others on this forum, but this looks to me like a standard 1200 Mirage, with later 1200TS fairing and attachments, late mk2 Jota seat, tail piece, and grab bar, and mystery front fender. Side covers and tank are correct 1979 1200, but the Jota sticker is not. Color is not correct for 1979 1200.
As is always the case, personalizing a motorcycle to suit personal tastes is great, but as is the case here, probably has reduced its value a tiny bit.
 
It looks very clean and should get a good price if it's running well. I've seen that front fender and brace on some vintage Ducatis.

I highly recommend to remove the engine side-covers and the fairing including brackets before making fotos to sell the bike, at least make some additionally. It'll gain a lot more attraction without... Just my 2 cents... give the parts to the buyer if they want it, but personally, I find them ugly as hell.
 
I have a TS Mirage myself and can confirm,
Fairing is Laverda standard for TS Mirage srs2 (srs 1 had indicators on bottom of fairing) those indicators fitted are non standard.
Swing arm appears to be same as mine from "Metmachex" in the Uk.
Lower fairing sides are TS mirage.
Tank is 1200/Mirage.

Rest of it anyone's guess!
 
Thanks for all the input. I tried to get a picture of the frame numbers but its a bit tight and the paint is a bit thick.

The frame number and engine number match the number on the title, which lists it as a 1978.

1221 suggests it's from late in the first build year or very early in the second year of 1200 production. Interesting that, if it was formally imported into USA and sold through the dealer network, it apparently does not have the federal conformance label with the build month and year on the headstock.

That was just a stick on label was it not? It shows up on the Laverdamania register as a 1977 Jota America.

it was a sticker its long gone. The frame looks like it was powdercoated at some point.
It was put together by a guy locally who owned a BMW shop, but he has also passed away so I cant get any real information about the history.
