Congratulations Chris - yes you can get similar relays of ebay Aprilia one would work ( are you sure its that ) - they have a certain reputation - starter circuit is rubbish , needs a very good battery , and most of the wiring is a bit shit however it can be rewarding to get one running - they need specific oil , side stand circuit needs checking as it can cut the injection system - any reason you have found out that it was left ? the cranks can be cranky sadly ? if you do facebook join the Zanelist Laverda site and its worth joining https://groups.io/topics you will have to register but its a specific Zane website group - good luck

Cheers Sidney

OK thats a great help, I'm thinking it's that as new battery and the relay just clicks going from jap bikes "normally" means relay, I've heard these electrics are not the best but I do like playing with looms ect you get used to it working on Bandits haha,

What oil would be best as I was thinking that today as ordered oil filter

It was left as the previous owner is a family friend and we all thought he sold it but been tucked away under a blanket in garage

I'm not on social media forums are the most il use

cancel the order for an oil filter and fit an oil filter by pass plate, twas the cause of many an engine failure (and lots of other causes) there are two brush and four brush starters I do believe, starter relays are fairly generic if you can crop and re-do a few electrical terminations.

This is the relay thats clicking if anyone would say somthing els is up please let me know and the best oil,

Just had a look into it gave the starter solenoid a tap and now that's clicking also on the press of start button any ideas?

Il look at a bypass for oil filter when the bike is up and running and I like it as I'm 6ft 4 so might ache the old hips possibly but feels good sat in garage

The main starter relay is on the left hand side near the Reg - make sure that the connector behind the seat pad is ok - it’s a fire hazard - does the fuel pump prime when you turn the ignition on ?

Rock oil TRM was designed to be used with Zane 750s, so it’s a good choice, but others will do. If you replace the oil filter with a ‘blanking plate’ (and I have some in stock) you need to change the oil more often as it is only a strainer not a filter. I would also make sure you have a magnetic sump plug fitted.

Sidney fuel pump primes fine when I turn the key but all just clicks would you say it might be a bad earth or somthing?

OK thats great I've got some Motul 5100 kicking about will use that 👍

Yeah thats fine about the plate it's the same as we do on the race bandits/earlie gsxr's, out of intrest Andy what price is a plate?

Battery Must be good - even with a good one mine takes a couple of stabs to get the engine to turn over - don’t hold your finger on the button if the engine is not rotating as the wiring to the starter motor can burn out - people do upgrade the cables it but it’s a faff

Reasons these bikes don't turn and check-list:

-Batterie => if new and fully charged, that's not the issue
-Starter-motor =>if you bridge the starter relais on the left - does the engine turn? If not, you found the problem. This isn't necesseraly an engine out thing, but it might be easier... The starter is under a cover and to unmount this cover is PITA already, left alone getting the starter out. Tiny hands help... starter can be reworked (OCT again f.e.), best with a 4-brush plate
-Side-stand switch => known for giving up at some point in time. on the right side under the little cover with the holes there is a 4 contact AMP super seal plug. bridge the female part with an adapter (OCT can suply them, but I think you'll get them somewhere in GB, too)
-fuel pump => if no sound after turning the key, it's not working. either blocked or relay is not OK

Upgrades:
-Starter motor: get yourself a 4-brush plate fitting to the starter. Part number should be on here or on the zane-list-webpage/forum
-cables: replace with massively thicker ones
-relais: replace with a stronger/better one
-if possible, get yourself a different starter gearing (right hand engine cover needs some slight modification to fit it in)

HTH

UPDATE all

Rite I put another starter solenoid on and bingo turns over I was cearful not to hold the start button 2 turns stop let it cool and so forth now back to square 1 solenoid just clicks when start button pressed

Any ideas seems odd to me but got another on order will be here tomorrow
