Nikasil plating

I have two Sachse systems here in stock for our tiddlers, 75cc and 100cc bikes
thought they were 6 volt, will check today

would not be hard to copy the design if there was any interest

I understood the Sachse systems are battery(DC) powered.

No battery on my tiddler, not even a battery tray, want to keep it that way.  Lots of room under the tank for the tiny CDI stuff.

Thanks mate!

Already have a complete generator/ignition setup from a chinese POS, and a 6V AC CDI unit from a Honda TLR.  "Just" need to make a pick-up that is small enough to fit into the points housing.  Actually want to retain as much of the original stuff as possible, only want the maintenance freedom of pointless ignition and a working advance/retard, as the original runs on fixed timing.

Piet, took me a couple of days to remember where I have seen a CDI pickup with advance/retard before, the old Honda XL500S K11 had such a system. Most of those engines probably dead now by busted cam bearings (which means busted head), so the stuff should be relatively easy to source at the breakers.
Seems so:

Might work to chop most of the pick-up base plate off to fit it in the Laverda points housing. Not sure the trigger cam with the advance mechanism will fit in, though.

Stefan

Stefan,

I used one of those on my TLR trials Honda to enable me to fiddle around with ignition timing.  In stock form, the TLR has fixed rotor/sensor with advance being handled digitally, with no adjustment being provided.

I'm aiming for a digital A/R system to simplify the mechanics.  Probably will have to manufacture a pick-up as I cannot find anything small enough to cram into the stock points cavity.  Setting up the pick-up on the generator rotor is a pita if the cover needs to be removed, the entire gearshift mechanism has to come apart and there is the ever-looming danger of pulling the selector pin/drawkey out too far... means the engine has to come apart completely!

Have a look at points replacement pickups for agricultural machinery. There's quite a bit available for things like Briggs and Stratton to convert from points to both magnetic switch type pickups and Hall effect sensors. Most are very small as there's not a lot of room available.
I've used Pertronics points replacement rotors and mag switch type pickups on battery powered ignitions. They fit into the small Triumph twin points housings easily. Even used one on a Parilla single. The rotors are not hard to graft onto a c/f advance mech.
