NOLOGY COILS

Hi Rob!

Do you know if there are any drawbacks to using PVL coils with Ignitech? I was told that the 3Ohms Nology coils were the same as the 2.4Ohms PVL coils, even same manufacturer.
In fact somewhere I read that PVL coils are made for 3 Ohms ignition systems, don't ask me why, I have no idea about electricity.

Ignitech unit is fine with different rated coils, we run 0.6kΩ Nology coils on our race bikes with no issues, sent an email to Ignitech when I built the race bikes asking if it would be okay to run those coils and they replied saying no issue at all with 0.6kΩ coils so 2.4kΩ will be no issue either

Cam, Nology coils are made in Germany and are identical to the PVL coils which are also made in Germany, presumably at the same factory as they share the same part number but not the name so there must be some licensing deal going on I believe

The RH handlebar switches can be dis-assembled, cleaned and re-assembled with new cables soldered on, good for another 5 decades of use and abuse, without relays. Same goes for the LH switches. Yes, the use of relays here is preached, but that is only because the voltage drop in the headlight dip switch can be excessive and the horn contact is not up to the job when dual Voxbells are installed.

As Rob has stated, it's best to keep the ignition circuit as simple as posible to retain utmost reliability.
