Does anybody recognise this petrol cap, this is fitted to an Indian Velocette, I am sure it would have been used on other bikes or machinery. the neck into tank is about 10mm bigger than a normal fitting, an awful lot of the parts for these bikes were from Italian machinery so I reckon this would have been the same, any help appreciated, if I can find other uses it enables me to find somewhere to search. thanks Neili.jpeg

Coincidentally. I've been looking at aftermarket tank caps lately. On our local site - trademe - there are loads of chinese origin caps for all types of industrial tankage. I'm sure it's the same on ebay or any other similar site. Asking sellers for dimensions would be a good start.

Looks very like the rocker box filler cap on a diesel Perkins 200 series engine, most likley the 4.182 the 3 litre version (the 182 bit is cubic inches)

I remember those Indian Velocettes, did Italjet make the cycle parts?
there was a story that someone ordered them in USA but didn't pay the money and Geof Dodkin (UK Velo dealer) ended up with a quantity to sell, was it 50, interesting story, probably got most of it wrong.

Italjet certainly did make the Indian Velocette, the Americans name who ordered them though, was Floyd Clymer.
Some sources say that Clymer had sourced 77 Velocette Venom engines and 45 Velocette Thruxton engines, so a maximum of 122 bikes could have been produced.

italajet were involved in a roundabout way, Clymer was building the bikes as he owned the Indian name, not sure about the unpaid bill but Dodkin did have about 50 as Clymer died before they were finished, about 120 in total world wide 50ish with Thruxton engine, 70 with Venom engine. worth looking at the Triumph Griffon, very similar one off, designer was Tarentino for these, and I think that's where italajet comes into it with the frame on the Griffon. I will look up these Perkins and see if I can find the cap, thanks Neil

Are you not mixing up Tarentino and Tartarini? ( and Tonti? )
