Thumb CMCJ Replacment X-ray.jpg

I've got my left hand back!
Two weeks ago, I had a replacement thumb joint fitted.
Necessarily, it's been in a cast since but, this morning, that was removed.
The Physiotherapist has given me exercises to settle the new joint in and a soft splint to wear between them.
I see her again, in two weeks and, hopefully, get the all clear for some snorkelling, while my daughter, Nathalie dives in the Red Sea, in January.
🤞
👌

Though it may be a little longer before I can get out on the Triple.

I’m not a medical professional, but I didn’t know they had spare parts for hand bones?

Was talking to a bloke that had a knee replacement, things turned sour while mending and they cut his leg off.

It's a fairly new procedure.
That's why it's hyper important that I don't overload the new joint, Chris, until the physio exercises have tightened all the tendons around it. That will make it stable and better than it has been for the last five years.

I just found it Ironic, before I did the extended lever, I was getting pins and needles and numbness in my wrist. Losing the ability to do everyday tasks, hope your thumb becomes super byonic with its addition.

Let me know how it goes Hamish.
I have a lot of arthritis in my hands and it's getting to be difficult.
And the wrists.

In 1975, while riding my Z1B home after work and then getting hit by a fast-moving Mini Cooper, this device was in place for 3 months on the right leg, then a full leg cast was applied from the groin to the toes for another 6 months. Meanwhile, the left leg was in a groin-to-toe cast concurrently for 6 months.
Life is challenging when you have both legs in full-length casts. 2 legs in full-length casts, on crutches across a cow paddock over the barb wire fences with a tote bag to pick up beer, and 'Bike' magazine, you did what you had to do, I had great mates back then; sadly both of those mates I lived with during my recovery phase are gone.
When the left leg cast was removed, I was able to go back to riding my Kawasaki Z1B. The right leg was still in a full-length cast. Still, it facilitated 'bungeeing it to the bike for rides along the Weir Road to the Weir Pub 'Session.' Has anyone else ever scraped their ortho plaster cast on the corners?
I was a bit of a nutter back then.
Finally, at 9 months, both legs were free and clear of devices and casts, but within 3 weeks, I broke the left leg again.
ps. Don't try to ride your Z1 Kawasaki like PC (Police Constable) Peter Watson style. I was young, you heal fast, and you learn... maybe. Bruce Harley Laverda dealer sponsored PC Watson, Watson was good!

So then it is summer again, you can't ride your leg is f...... So, along with a couple (3 ) friends, you rent an Avis Rental Car, a Ford Fairlane 351, and drive it from Perth to Adelaide, avoiding all paved roads, so dirt only, it can be done. Who needs a 4 wheeld drive when you have a rental car?
Hunter S Thompson would have been proud. Collisions with 'blackboys' (if you know, you know). AVIS... was not impressed.

Sold the Kwaka, bought a Lav, life is good.

Just one leg is a huge pain in the arse. Ever tried carrying a plate of food on crutches? That's some Meccano kit, Dave.
