Not charging

Running a Redax/Lx/Ignitech 300 watt alternator& charging system on my old 3c and has stopped charging.Anyone had this problem and whats the fix.
 
In my case, it was overcharging and a new regulator fixed it. Plenty here will know how to do checks to see exactly what the issue is.
 
Blimey. It could be a whole bunch of things. There's no single answer, so you'll need to give us a few more clues.

It could be a duff regulator/rectifier as was Vince's experience, or it could be a blown fuse, a busted wire, a spade connector not making proper contact, a knackered battery, fried alternator windings, etc.

How competent are you with a multimeter and following the logic of electrical circuits? If you don't have a clue where to start (as your broad question seems to imply) that's OK. Everyone has to start somewhere on their personal electrical adventure, and there are plenty of people here willing to answer specific questions or walk you through some of the test procedures.

My advice to get you started would be to look for obvious simple things first like a blown fuse in the charging circuit or a wire fallen off its connector, poor earth connection, stuff like that. A multimeter on a can be helpful finding breaks in continuity or high resistances in connections.

If it all looks normal, then you'll need to get into the nitty-gritty of measuring stuff like AC and DC voltages, and maybe doing diode function tests on the RR.

Could try connecting the rectifier directly to the battery , by-passing the harness , see if it starts charging then ......... if the harness is still original , the parts of it which haven`t been replaced with the new ignition system will be knocking on for 50 years old now .

Dunno anything about the Redax / Ignitech system , but as Paul points out above , in the normal course of things you should only looking at the state of health of the alternator , the rectifier / regulator , and the connections between those two and the battery .

Nothing special about the Redax system. Alternator-regulator/rectifier-battery. All provided apart from battery of course. All new wiring.

Who installed the Redax system?
You need to be careful with the wiring around the alternator and where it passes through the engine cases.

most likely the regulator has fried, nothing special about them, majority of modern bikes have 3 phase charging systems
install new regulator and should be working again

only other issue we find is a break in the wiring somewhere, rare to have a stator burn out
 
I would see on average 1 triumph burnt out stator per month. Granted, they run in oil, so may deteriorate quicker. Reg/Rec failures are rarer, usually caused by a high resistance joint between stator and reg. Brand new 1200 triumph running 7 onboard computers and a lithium battery are seeing reg failures.
 
FWIW, permanent magnet alternator systems, single or poly phase, ostensibly run 100% duty cycle ie flat out unless the battery or system take all the output power. Externally excited alternators are opposite power duty cycle, in 1972 Suzuki GT750 had an externally excited 300W alternator on the motor, the odd armature did fail in those days also.

Faults are not complicated in repair, yet can be somewhat of a challenge to identify part or parts which have failed or not working as designed. Hence the diatribe posted on Robs issues, love the "Phd online quip" did laugh a lot...did well Dave...j
 
The cynic may well say, mission accomplished, customer returning to hand over cash, for short life parts..... and again and again...j

To true. After the stator on my 2004 RSV was kaput, I changed the regulator to a Compu-Fire 55402. This regulates voltage and with this protects the alternator and leads to thermal relief:
