Not So Stupid as you Might think.

Seen this actually happen to a mate. Not the Winching just a recovery. I was on a big ride, maybe 30 blokes and while riding along I noticed out of the corner of my eye something moving way down a very steep drop-off. It was Sam, a vine had noosed him turning him and the bike 90deg and over a cliff. He was fine and it took a hell of an effort to recover the bike, a 300cc KTM and much lighter than this Advertute Bike. So I guess not so crazy for them. He must be getting braver, no hat this time.

It's a conundrum, if you travel big distances and want to get remote it happens. Many years ago a mate headered off to travel and live off his bike, he soon learned an XR600 was pretty uncomfortable for what he was doing but great in the serious stuff. You probably would get by mostly but we have some long straight roads in Oz before you get to interesting places. That same necked bloke mentioned above still has his Endro bike and a few others but his Adventure bike is a 500 KTM single with a big tank and an accessory oil cooler that adds oil capacity as well plus a cush drive rear wheel, he manages to handle the discomfort so he can push it into extreme stuff as well. I talk a big game but I am too old and fat to be doing any extreme stuff these days, but I thought that winch vid was interesting to see. BTW for the locals, we ran into him on a ride at Berarra Ferry once on that KTM.

Have an all weather dirt road that runs adjacent to my property. Makes me laugh seeing dudes on their big 'Adventure' bikes slowly coming down the road standing on the pegs.

Read a test on the latest Ducati Multistrada Rally in Australian Motorcycle News the other day. It is touted as a serious go anywhere bike with all the electronics that is possible to fit to a bike and 170 HP and a price tag of 41 grand.
Would anybody seriously think of riding a bike like that in the outback or any other similar environment around the world.
Give me a 650 chooky with a big tank any day.

My 350 KTM with a big tank is almost too heavy for me now thinking about going down to a 250 or 300.
I have always had Huskys and we did a lot of Technical single track so light and reduced Gyro is good so after a small test ride at the Distributors I bought a 250. It was absolutely brilliant for single track BUT it had 2 serious defects as a trail bike. All those model Huskys came with a close ratio 6-speed box, no higher 6th for cruising that had them revving their arse off at 100kph and that happened occasionally and wasn't pleasant. The other issue for that really competitive bike was the engine was all top-end needing big revs, it lacked Toque for really big hills and I just wasn't a good enough rider to hit those big hills pinned to the max. I hit it with every mod known to man EXCEPT what it really needed. A big bore kit hit the market late in my ownership, a 300cc kit. That extra 5mm bigger bore kept all its top-end power and increased torque a hell lot in its midrange. Not saying all 300s do this but over-bored 250s with their shorter stroke apparently do it all.
