I had a look at UK requirements for that, much tighter than here in Oz:
DVLA can only recognise your vehicle as a reconstructed classic vehicle if it meets certain criteria. It must be:
  • built from genuine period components from more than one vehicle, all over 25 years old and of the same specification as the original vehicle
  • a true reflection of the marque
Here in South Australia it is:
  • A motor vehicle is a historic vehicle if 30 years or more have elapsed since 1 January of the year in which the vehicle was manufactured.
My Le Mans will have carbon fibre tank courtesy of Boba, Mikuni flat slides, lots of other bits to lighten it. No way it would pass muster for the cheaper rego over there. Looks like you’ve been made to work for it. Well done.
 
Cheers Dave,Genuine bike ,not reconstructed, ,ex MOD Rome.,just DVLA wouldn}t accept Gilera Historical registry in Arcore,even though that"s factory records. had to be a UK dating certificate,and as there is no UK recognised Gilera club it had to be done by the VMCC which is in financial melt down and with Covid,I was lucky and they sorted it,then DVLA were very quick at giving me the registration. Only took a year,but the end result is good.

I am currently helping a bloke register what might be the only 250cc Dollar in the UK, built in Paris France in 1927, there is no owners club in the UK, DVLA will not accept a French website for dating, and state that (as above) it has to be from an English source, but there isnt one, it's a quaint old motorised bicycle for fornications sake, whats the big deal? that is just a load of old crap and seems insurmountable,. The VMCC lost £100,000+ in 2020, the previous year they accounted a £3,000 profit. I have been waiting four weeks for a reply to a simple email, I doubt it will ever come, inefficient? dont even go there. But if they would provide a certificate, DVLA would no doubt issue the reg, I doubt that anyone in the office of VMCC has ever heard of a Dollar and would as likley as not discover that their libray does not contain any reference to the mark, that is how rare they are and especially in the UK, anyone now different?

Clem I think VMCC is your only option ,DVLA are very insistant as you know on their approved list.Trotsky is going through it with his Saturno now. My contact was Peter Bennett his email- Peter.B@vmcc.net I think he has been drafted in to help.Maybe he can give you some info,they did use and Italian specialist for my Gilera,based in Italy. There are many rare marques that they have to deal with ,unlike mine.Cheers Shaun

BTW what a friggin pain in the arse the DVLA are!! Why all the fuss over a bloody motorised relic??!! 😡
