Odd Tail Brake light bulb

I just had a fiddle with my Atlas Tail brake light and it's not something I have seen before. The Owners manual lists it as a Luse posterlore 12v21W e _c W with that c with an underscore dash. I expected to find a typical offset pin tail light bulb and I did but its fitting connection is very odd. There is only one grove for a pin to slide in on one side and it doesn't turn and lock in, it appears to be spring-loaded and doesn't turn. Why I was looking was because I thought the brake light was kind of weak and it was because the bulb was in backward having a bright tail light and a weak brake light. I have never seen a One Grove mount before. Are these common and do they use another bulb type other than what was there in there your typical staggered pin tail light bulb?

I forgot to add as I pulled the bulb out a small piece of packing, tin foil I think fell out, I think it was added so the bulb stayed straight and didn't tip over on its pin on the side of the tunnel with no grove. It's very odd requiring that Bodge to support the twin offset pin bulb used. It just cannot be right.

Vince,
It doesn't answer your question, but I had a 'normal' CEV rear light on my Atlas, replacing the original - it worked! 😁

Baffling, according to the Atlas Forum they use the same tail light as a bunch of mid-90s Ducatis so I asked the local Ducati shop about what tail brake light bulb they use and its offset pin, the same as everybody else. There are no LED tail lights that have odd staggered pins so I ordered an LED offset pin and see how that goes. I also bought a replacement right-side heated grip that will get treated much more gently this time.No panicked gluing this time for sure.

It was the same light as my Gilera Saturno. Normal 2 filament bulb.

Yes, but the socket it fits in does not have 2 grooves 180deg apart from each other. It has 2 grooves one at 3 o'clock and one at 4 o'clock quite close to each other. Never seen that before.

No, the above pins are at 1 o'clock and 6 o'clock. What I think I need are pins at 3 o'clock and 4 o'clock and they don't apparently exist. I saw that on the LED Shop site. The grooves are right next to each other in the mount on this bike. I gave up and just ordered a standard Stagered pin LED, it had a twin filament Stagered pin bulb in it so it I hope will work with that LED replacment. Next issue is the left screw that holds the red lens on is stripped, so it's getting a tightly wrapped strip off a Coke Can Super Glued into the stripped tube that the screw goes into. This is close to the old Carpenter's trick of glueing a match into a flogged-out hole in timber, Door hinges are a classic case. Problem is a match is too thin in this case. I will take a pic of the bulb socket tomorrow. It's bloody odd.

Good thinking Robin.
Yeah cheers Batman… I did it with all the lights in my camper, “Gadzukes!”, twice the lumens for half the power. Easy job with a soldering iron and a steady hand 👍
Then I upgraded the piss-weak marker lights in my panniers to turn them into indicators:
“POW, biff, bam 💥

Really neat job there, I have ordered an LED warm white typical replacement to replace the same style incandescent that was in there. I just kept getting blank looks about the odd-shaped connect point. Std-shaped incandescent bulbs seem to work. I got an LED for my 3c and am impressed at how much brighter its tail and brake light is now.
