Odyssey battery

'Weekend update', hey it's an SNL thing from the old days, but I digress. Got my Odyssey via FedEx today, Odyssey stepped up and sent out a new replacement battery and didn't even want me to return the old one. Amazon sent an email stating if I did not want a replacement they would refund my original purchase price, fair enough a $130 refund versus a $170 replacement, do the math, another satisfied Laverda veteran.

John IIS, just curious what I would find if a cracked open the old battery, "move along nothing to see here" or just a waste of time?

A new battery from Odyssey, PLUS a refund from Amazon? Good work, you must have made enough noise 😁
I wouldn’t open the old battery, unless you just want to see how it’s made (and possibly make ‘responsible’ disposal difficult). Without chemical analysis or at least knowing the original specs I doubt you’ll learn anything about why it failed. Just my opinion.
 
Back again, gigs are getting tougher these days on the body and politic, creak and cracking joints.... ok battery failure analysis, seen it done on a flooded cell battery, biggie around 220Ah stationary installation. Messy it was, as Andy indicates that the actual disassembly can be difficult in controlling the chemicals and materials internally. Throw away quip from me would be that if it is an inter-electrode connection failure in one section, then if an endemic or systemic mechanical issue there will be further failures. Knowledge is power a mantra here, in this case i would not embark upon a failure analysis, the effort and safe self would be my primary concern. HTH.
 
Running Odysseys on my three - on Sunday the Corsa refused to start with the odd pop and bang so charged it up overnight and it duly started but wouldn’t restart - voltage dropped the 10.4 while cranking and just 12.6 static running on the standard ignition - cue taking the one out of the Jota and the Corsa starts straight away - ( older battery in the Jota ) - charge the Corsa battery again using a ctek charger 13.5v at rest put it into the Jota and it fires and starts immediately - woll
Monitor it over the winter and may have to replace on the spring 😳
