Oil Cooler Exit

as far as I am aware ........................
all RGS bikes have 10mm wide oil pump gears from the factory, not 9mm as stated above by Vince, of course a 180 type pump can be fitted to an RGS, so that may have happenned.

I ewould say a factory RGS pump is the best if new or very good used, an aftermarket one, might need a bit of fettling/selective assembly.

If it works well, why change it?

Just a question related to this thread - with oil cooler and lines empty of oil, is there an easy way to pre-charge, will the pump do it on the starter with the plugs out without too much winding? What has anyone else done with empty oil lines? Obviously I will lift cam cover and pre-oil cams etc.

If you just start it, how long will it take for the oil pump to take up the slack?

an easy way to prime the system is to use a cordless drill, get a used exhaust rubber which has a central stud, then cut the thing in half and mount the stud in the chuck of the drill, now you have the a rubber tipped cordless pump driver, next remove the cranshaft nut, primary chain and the oil pump driving gear, heopefully you have left or have built everything "wet" because rotating a dry pump would not be good, then you can press the rubber tipped drill onto the oil pump driving gear (make sure you rotate in the corect direction) and pump away, the only thing turning now in your engine is the oil puimp, remove the cam cover and when yoiu see the oil flood out of the cam bearings (all six) you have filled the system.
