Oil level SF1

I did my first oil change on my newly restored SF1. I noticed that hardly 2 liters of oil came out while I thought I had it filled to the upper mark. I would like to confirm whether I use the correct mark. The dipstick has a flat section on which 2 marks or pressed in on 1/3 and 2/3 of the flat. When I filled it up the first time I filled it to the upper mark, not the top of the flat. Is that correct or should it be filled to the top of the flat section. As I didn't want to overfill I used the lower of the two options.

Alternatively there may be a lot of oil staying in the motor that doesn't want to come out easily.

Can you help me out?

Regards,
Ron

Hi, Ron.
Be sure to let the plastic part of the dipstick rest on the
opening in the case when measuring. Don't screw it in.
Check if you have the correct dipstick.
750 dipstick: 205mm (length of metal part)
1000 dipstick: 220mm        -"-

Final mark after a short engine run should be halfway between the 2 marks.

Ron hi,
I have had the same experience, I put it down to the amount of oil sitting in the bottom of the gear box and crankcase.
To do a fill I top up to the top line on the dip stick, a peace of mind thing and gives best heat transfer.

I'll post a picture or 2 of teh Toy (SF1) as soon as I can get my son to organise it for me.

I did an oil change on my 750 yesterday, 2.5 litres came out and 2.5 litres went back in to match the top mark. Same with my triple, 2.5 litrer refills.
When changing, and after it has dumped, I lean the bike over, wait for the oil to stop dripping then do the other side. I do this several times till nothing comes out.

Rob, problem is that a lot of oil is left behind, unless you tip it over (as you say), and let the last of it drain out. Even then, there is a reasonable amount of residual. Unless you turn the bugger upside down and shake the bajesus out ouf it!

Maybe one of those lipo suction jobbies would be the go I reckon. I checked my records and the last oil change was 200 miles ago, amazing how the miles just fly by!!
It was 3 years ago!!!
It's off to the Devil's Undies annual gathering tomorrow, Northcliff Hotel, only 100 kays from here so a good run for the SFC. JC is coming on his 3C and Mal on his 120jota, 3 laverdas in one place in WA would have to be a record!!

Thanks very much all of you. So I understand that the top mark (line) is the max, not the top of the flat. I made the right guess then.

Just too bad that the fresh oil I put in is likely to be a bit contaminated with the old stuff that didn't come out, as I didn't lean it over. Will do that next time.

Ron, where did you learn English? Oblished?? You've got it all wrong. If he posted pics, you wouldn't be obliged (to look at them) you would be "appreciative". Obligiged suggested "you owe"!

Christ, do I have to teach you guys English!
