I have an irritating leak from my sump, or is it leek?

What works best?

The sump bolt looks like it has a flange, should it be fitted with a copper or plastic washer of some sort?

Need to do an oil change and Im keen to get it sealed properly.

What size is the washer?

Cheers
Ed.

As Piet said + use Loctite 577 Hydraulic Sealant.
The loctite is brilliant stuff, it locks the thread so it does not undo (so you don't have to grunt up the plug and strip the thread), it seals the oil and it will disassemble fairly easily.
I have used it for donkeys years with no problem.

I needed one in a hurry and ended up using a copper crush washer like the ones used in the exhaust ports, just smaller.

Honda cars use an aluminum crush washer in 14mm i.d. Available and pretty cheap too. Here in the states they list for about 30 cents each.

Well looks like previous owner had done a re-bore as the bolt was 16mm.

Annoying as I had splashed out $2 whole bucks on four new copper washers.

The oil was as black as the proverbial. Disgusting.

Ill be changing it again as it was so bad.

Brake fluid is also black.

Hmmph.

Some good news is that its now finally registered and on the road!

It's easy enuf to make your own copper washers. I cut a bit off a length of old 3/4" copper pipe that I happen to have lying around (although 1/2" will do), split it lengthways, bash it out flat and use a wad punch to wallop a hole in it, then trim the outside of the washer with tin snips to resemble a circle around the centre hole. Anneal it and Bob's your uncle. Well, actually Bob is my brother but that's not relevant. The relevant bit is that I've never had a leak from a drain plug.

Cheers,
Cam

Dellortoman your a genius why didnt i think of that?

Vince, still not 100% confident in the bike, once in a while it doesnt start. Press the button and nothing happens. Im going to replace the relay as I have tidied up and checked the wiring. Once thats done ill sure be joining y'all for a ride.

Interesting scud, what gear would you use for bump starting?

I had a row with a good friend as he was insisting on third, I said it was way too low.

Used to bump start my SF2 in second gear for years. Couldn't get a replacement starter clutch back then. I could start it in the length of the garage with the door shut easy as.....
