Not Australia , but Southern Germany ........ The road leading up to the top of the Kesselberg has seen a speed limit reduction in recent years , and a ban on motorcyclists travelling downhill again ....( presumably to thwart return attempts ) .....
Now there are red / white poles along the centre line to stop bikes crossing over into the oncoming lane through the corners ........
There is a 3 pm to 10 pm ban on bikes using the road completely .... This applies from March to September , it was just a weekend ban but now applies Mon - Fri as well ............. ( 3 pm to 10 pm as that`s when they reckon that was the most popular time for bike riders , and the time of the most accidents ) .......
This has happened after years of local residents complaints about the riding up the road becoming a spectator sport , danger to other road users , and most of all ...... noise ..........
Organisations like FEMA would normally try to oppose bans on motorcycles using roads , which are now becoming more and more common ....... but in view of all the above , in this case it would be a futile exercise .......
No knowledge regarding The Old Road , but by the sound of it , if you`re a bike rider , looks like time is running out ..... best enjoy it whilst you still can ........ A speed limit change may turn out to be the least of your worries .......
BTW .... Is there a riders rights organisation in Australia , the equivalent of MAG or BMF we have in the UK , or FEMA in Europe , who would be prepared to lobby local or national government if such a ban was proposed ( or better still , have seats on government committees , as MAG does in the UK ....... to try to ensure such proposals are stifled at birth ? ... ) ....... Just wondered ........
