I believe buried away somewhere I have a news article .... ( It may even appear somewhere in Archive Stuff ) ... which states that Slater Bros were experiencing difficulties ..... ( at that moment in time ) ....... in obtaining supplies of new motorcycles from Moto Laverda ......... This meant there would be a delay of several weeks before these new bikes would be available at Slaters appointed dealers .......
This delay was due to industrial action .... ( or more accurately , inaction ) ..... being taken by the Breganze workforce ......
I believe the factory would close down for the summer holidays during the month of August ....... everyone then returning in September to start work producing the new bikes destined to be sold the following year .
A journalist visited the factory some months prior to this appointed holiday break , and was surprised to find the factory deserted ...... on what would be considered to be a normal working day ........
When he asked why this should be , Massimo replied that management had entered into an agreement with the workers unions , in which it was agreed that as some form of industrial ( in) action during the course of the year would be almost inevitable ........ then certain days , or periods of time . would be set aside in advance ........
It was during these days that the workforce could exercise their right to withdraw their labour ......... but as these dates were set in advance , then the management could " work around " these dates ....... and therefore keep disruption to a minimum ......... which hopefully meant Roger and Richard would not experience any future delays regarding the delivery of their bikes .........
I believe this idea of strike day trading was not applicable to just Moto Laverda , but was a fairly common practice generally ..........
