Oo mi Clutch

Hey All

Just reassembling my RGS clutch and have a couple of questions:

What torque should the spring bolts be ?

What's the secret to lining up all the clutch plates so the drum fits ?

                        Cheers

Care and patience!

Factory tool is help full bu not essential.

The method I use is to line up the plates as best as is possible using a straight edge steel ruler. Then put in two springs/bolts opposite each other and do up part way allowing the plates to move a little but not loose and floppy. Gently tap the drum on, withdrawing and realigning plates as necessary until you can tap it all the way home. Then very carefully withdraw and tighten up the bolts a bit more, hopefully the drum will slide back on again easily, if so insert and tighten all the other springs and bolts.

I don't know the torque figure, I have simply done them up reasonably tight using a 1/4" drive 10mm socket and a spot of Loctite.

Spring bolts are just nipped up. To fit the drum pull the lever to lift the clutch then wiggle the drum on while briskly twisting it right and left. Remember to check sprocket alignment while you are in there.

Hey James & Keith

Thanks for the helpfull advice, in I go again .............

Will also check sprocket alignment.

Cheers from the plastic mechanic ...........

I am reckoning that Keith's method is a damn site faster than my method, but I don't have the strength to be hold the clutch in as the same time as the vigorous wiggling thing!

Hey All

Clutch back together, all friction plates seemed straight and measured around 3mm so not worn, found 3 scored steel plates that I've replaced and also fitted new springs so I hope that cures any slippage.

Crank and clutch sprocket alignment is perfect .........  :)

I now have one more challenge, to work out how the spring fits to the primary chain adjuster. Any ideas ?

                              Cheers

Hi Matt

Open ends of spring go into hole on tensioning pad
Closed end goes rearwards
Spring loops under tensioning pad pivot
Spring pushes pad AWAY from chain

Hey Paul

Spring fitted, thanks for the help.
