Paul LeClair new project and 1982 Mirage 1200 TS Series 2 FOR SALE

You must be bored Paul, or a challenge is too hard to resist, may as well use those hard won skills in life, endurance at the least.... Had in the Bowral "blue sky workshop" an MG Daytona racing with C kit, installed factory bike. The Fuel Injection was main concern, actually had a trim pot for adjustment, had it for several weeks, assuming yours is of lineage of the Daytona motor? My best guess is you will be drawn to the FI system as needing attention, then the can of worms sitting next to the Weber Marelli will be waiting to be overturned.... the plethora of commercial remedies will then become part of the worms escape... no need to thank me... all in a cynics days work.... non plussed look here...nice bike to ride BTW, only need 3 gears for most riding, 5th is for overtaking jet aircraft on the air strip... true! j

Paul,
Try www.wildguzzi.com/forum. It's a general Guzzi forum but it has a few Cenautro owners and many long-term devotee's to the brand. A lot of the fueling issues were remedied by a Craven chip. The two tone Grey is my favorite scheme. The yellow / grey not so much.

Hi Steve

a Craven chip or a Creedon chip? Bike has come to me already upgraded with the Creedon chip. I will have a look at the forum you recomended.

and John iis, I have already downloaded all the tech specs and Moto Guzzi factory training seminar material on properly setting up the Weber Marelli fuel injection. Yes, the Centauro is apparently the Daytona frame and engine, with some tuning changes to the engine for more mid range torque apparently. I know absolutely nothing about these bikes, I did not even know such a thing as this "Centauro' existed two days ago......:ROFLMAO: Would really rather be building another Laverda but have not been able to find one for this winters project

Good man Paul, saved a fortune on superfluous glasses, you dont need them, buying sight unseen has true meaning for a man such as yourself, what could possibly go wrong..... reminds me in the early days of Laverda ownership. Any noise or unexpected motor behaviour would illicit a major panic attack, cut to a year later, multiple Laverda rides in the stables, oh its making a noise... no problem, just rebuild it again, even pressing a crank hardly raised a drop of perspiration or worry... Conviction is the mark of the man, a wry smile here.

Background research a worthy process, see Steve M has a useful input. There was nothing of use in the day, as i battled the FI issues on or about early 2000's for the Daytona Racing, i did rebuild the gearbox ( requires special jigs ), the lash in clutch to rear wheel is dramatic, mostly the gears in the shaft to back wheel, massive clunking going on, as first is selected. j

Will Creedon chip. The Daytona was selling poorly because it was so much more than the 1100 sport , hence the surplus engines/ frames were put to use on the later Centauro .
I find the best guy for Guzzis is Aussie Pete Roper- knows more than everyone else put together.
It’s a curious mid cam engine not OHC designed by Umberto Todero, I have some original blueprints of a prototype Daytona 400cc engine that never saw the light of day.

Pete used to post a lot in the Guzzi Form we're it's Laverda section lots here first linked up maybe 15 years ago. It calaspsted when that Guzzi cam drive chain verses gear drive happened.Stupid trolling destroyed that form.

Pete used to visit me here and in Bowral times past, he is so strange, heart of gold no question. I put together one of the early iis MG systems, did not do my maths correctly, had assumed a V twin 90 degree motor config. It is of course a 270 degree in timing, cam timed meant 135 degrees, not 45 degrees, not sure whom spotted the error ( after i produced a slotted opto trigger pcb and had it on the road for tests ).... Mk3 the road test bike.... anyway Pete Roper was an important person in those days, around 15 years ago, lost contact soon after...be good to read he is in good health....j

Pete Roper is the guy to talk to with MG. He’s probable most famous for his ‘wind age plates’ which controlled oil starvation at the pump during hard acceleration. I managed to find a used one of these long ago for my V11 Sport. Definitely did what was designed for.

Pete's sense of humor and opinionated nature rubbed one of the nanny moderators the wrong way and led to an almost daily scolding. I think Pete finally tired of the power play and censorship and checked out. Too bad he had a lot to offer and I enjoyed his Aussie wit. Said nanny has since been replaced but still no Pete. All too PC now.

A mechanic mate worked on Guzzi FI found that relocating sensors had bigger benefits than adjusting the data. Do they still do that?
no idea, but I would like to know. Have discovered so far that one of the sensors is broken off, new one on its way from Curtis at Harpers Moto Guzzi along with a bunch of other bits.

interesting the amount of cross over Moto Guzzi knowledge and experience on our Laverda Forum. My only personal experience with Moto Guzzi until now was my wife's 2013 Moto Guzzi V7 Special purchased new, since sold on. All I did on that bike was add accessories and some very basic maintenance.

P.S. I don't see your Mirage in the for sale section?
I just "bumped" the ad, at the moment now back on the current page of the For Sale section. It is truly a very nice and well sorted bike.

there have been prospective purchasers from Australia, both coasts of the USA, and the UK, and I remain willing to crate and ship, but CoVid and other factors seem to have had their effects

as an aside, on a certain non motorcycle forum, being a moderator to my mind would be a thankless task, for the few and not many. One moderator had me targeted for sarcasm, this simpleton could not differentiate between allegorical content and sarcasm ( high wit low humour ), did my best, his education and perception had many a mile to travel yet... he was well challenged by the use of old and modern English, i departed.... better things to do than engage with a peasant, a peasant by choice over circumstanced well intentioned cast class, doing their best with what they have. John Lennon had it perfect, in the song "Working class Hero"... j

It takes a special type in all ways to be an Authority figure, Those who seek it out are those that are not suited typically. I love the way this place operates usually by consences, pretty rare in this day and age.

Peasants need to be well hung.
