Just bought a new pair of Orlandi type fuel taps to replace my troublesome old ones, and was curious to know what the purpose of the @3mm o/d hard plastic pipe inside the mesh filter was, only asking cos one is about 2mm shorter than the other, i'm guessing they are something to do with the reserve levels?....be gentle with this relative newby if this sounds like a stupid question.:rolleyes:

Yes, reserve.
If one side is shorter than the other, it's a pure accident proving that the world is imperfect.

Ok Thanks, the bike has been running great and revving cleanly, even up and into the red line occasionally, at the weekend the tank ran down to reserve for the first time since i've owned it - i switched the taps to reserve and noticed a pronounced spluttering once into the 4k rev Range, it cleared as the revs rose past this though, and funnily enough when i filled up and switched the taps back to mains the spluttering disappeared, too much of a coincidence not to be related to the reserve taps, so would one shorter pipe have an effect like this, eg one tap being on reserve while the other isn't?

More likely muck in the tap.
