I have a pair of the above carbs that need totally overhauled and need some info on the best size jets to use, I looked at the info on the Laverdamania site and was going to go with this, is this a good starting point.

Pilot 55
Choke 70
Main 140

The exhaust system is standard with the balance box fitted if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance

...with or without airbox, too.  ::)

Best you describe what exact bike you have, engine is standard or not and if not, what has been changed. What exhaust are you using etc.

;)

Yeh that might be helpful.

The bike in question is a 1973 SF1 750 in a standard state of tune, airbox is fitted as is a new  air filter supplied by Wolfgang.

If its Standard, you should be good with standard jets and settings. Make sure you completely bin any jet and needle you can get replacement for. Even if they look good, they are not, be sure...

Let it do someone who has done it before, please. it is not rocket-sience, but there are some traps you could fall into...

Thanks Lothar I know what you're saying and I would love to get someone to rebuild them but after buying all the parts I need which is nearly everything bar the slides and bodies (the bike has stood since 1984 and the carbs weren't drained ) there will not be anything left in the kitty for this.

Besides how does one learn, it is better to be shown but sometimes you just have to go it alone if there is no-one to hold your hand.

They are a simple carb to work on and set up, you will be fine. Really important if you can to ultrasound clean them and make sure all the passages are free, seeing as they sat for so long. The jets you list should be safe enough. I am happier with 145 mainjet, the 140 doesn?t leave much margin if tuning isn?t perfect, and it should pull wide open throttle cleanly. My SF2 has correct idle mix with a 45 pilot jet, the 40 it came with was too lean and a 55 would have my mixture screws pretty well bottommed out. If your slides are worn you really have to replace them, as they will take the bodies with them. Like Lothar says, needle and needle jet are a must to replace.
