Phone mount versus full time GPS

Be a tad careful Marty - last year the satellites changed their configuration somehow and older TomToms no longer work properly. Worth a check.

This killed my use of my old [car] TomTom which I had used in a weather proof housing on my bike for years.

I think the change was just related to the clock in the device. I have a couple of old TomTom GPS units, both of which still work, but the clock just stays on 12:00, so you don't get the ETA calculation. The navigation functions still work OK.

Found something similar in my Tomtom phone app, its exactly an hour long on arrival time and there doesn't seem to be a way to correct it. The time in the phone is right, just out in this app. I was thinking maybe its a daylight savings balls up, I have there Tech line number so I will ring them and see.

I ran up to jay car and bought the $10 cable. Thing seems to work ok. Tested it by setting up a run from cooma to Tumbarumba. It worked out fine. Tried the same on google maps, it wouldn?t take me on the Elliot way. Wanted to go via tumut. Maybe because the road is currently closed due to snow?

A while back Tomtom stopped updating the map on my 720 car GPS, but it didn't matter as its touch screen had died and no one would take on repairing it.Thats when I went to the Tomtom App on my phone. They as a company indulge in a lot of planned obsolescence, at your expence. I used a couple of waterproof aquaboxes and found them a pain in the arse, hard to connect the wires and close plus way to bulky.

A lot of products, definitely the entire smartphone industry, work on this principle ...

How well vibe-insulated is your GPS speedo on the twin-plugger, Marty? I have to weld in a new mount for the Kwaka instrument panel as the GPS fits perfectly OD wise but not enough room for the screw-up retainer - I definitely need to rubber mount somehow.

When 3 of us Taswegians rode our Laverdas up to Sydney for the 2011 Barry Sheene Festival of Speed, I made a mount on the Jota's handlebars for my car-type TomTom. But it's not waterproof so when it started to rain I took it off and put it in the map pocket of the tank bag. That's where it stayed for the rest of the trip. It's a safe place for it - reasonably well protected against rain, it can't fall off and the soft bag has a vibration isolation quality to it. It's not as if you have to stare at it all the time. Just a quick glance when you're unsure of which way to turn.

Since Sundays daylight savings change my arrival time has now self corrected.
And I didn't know that had happened till I saw the none connected clocks around the house were now out. Buggar me was that 8 years ago that Barry Meet. Your kidding,
