The gudgeon pin is 20mm , piston has a 1.5 mm groove. I am trying to find a suitable snap ring, as the eared circlips seem to have long gone.
Or do I measure the size as 20mm plus the groove depth,I'm well confused.

I'd probably just source some std ones from OCT or Keith Nairn or anywhere close. Common to twins and triples so easy peasy.

Interesting question though as I have to source a circlip for the clutch pushrod seal in the gearbox output shaft and the id is 19mm. Also wondering if a 'standard' circlip (with the two holes for circlip pliers) will work in that space.

If the circlip groove is for a round wire circlip, don't use a flat steel type. It will come out.

In this case the sizing is the shaft OD - ie 20mm gudgeon pin, circlip will be described as 20mm.

Quentin,

A generic circlip works quite OK in the gearbox shaft. The wire clips are often a pita to remove and replace as a 20mm clip is often fitted. What you need is a 19mm inside circlip to DIN 472. Wouldn't use them for the gudgeon pin, wire clips are readily available.

I can supply the wire type with turned-out ends for Mondial pistons.

Round wire clips only. Very hard to fit without scratching the piston. I just fitted mine using a handy tool made by Geoff Robinson. Circlip in the sleeve, sleeve fits into the piston then the pusher moves to clip into the groove with no damage. Happy days.

Ready for the barrels. Note the crankcase PCV breather, hope this works with a small mesh K&N filter

With the cut away on those pistons, I don't see the problem with scratches around the gudgeon pin hole.
However, nice tool.
