Pits in chrome Staunchions

I have some staunchions with pitting in the chrome. Thankfully not on a Laverda, just on one of those junky old Ducati things.

As a temporary fix I've been told superglue is the go. What is the process? Clean with, say, contact cleaner, dab on superglue, let it dry, and then buff level/smooth with about a 2000 emery? Will it last?

Given all the advances in chemicals, I would have thought there was a better chemical to use. Is there?

Opinions appreciated.

Regards, Greg

Some how to instructions in a similar thread last year:-

PS - no idea if it is effective, just remembered reading about it...............

My guess is rust ridges have more effect than divots, ridges would tear a seal where a divot would let a bit of oil out. I stoned, oil stone not doped, the legs on my Pantah a few years before replacement and that slowed the leaks a lot

I understand superglue does not hold up in wet environment?

JB weld is better IMHO  (or any decent epoxy)

I have used scotch-brite on forks before, to feather the edges of a chip in the chrome caused by wear. The sharp edges of the chip were tearing the seal causing leaks. I was impressed how effective scotch-brite was but you've got to be careful not to over do it, you'll be down to the copper in no time.
Then I rotated to stanchion 90 degrees.

I got multiple hits by googling 'Crocus Paper P2000'.

It's all over Fleabay!

Never even bothered with a gogglebox search - always just buy it from hardware joints ... and Bunnings. Would have been handy finishing off my alu plug before polishing.
