please help ADVICE REQ'D on removing speedo needle

thanks for reading

I need to remove the speedo facias from my ND speedometer and rev counter..... I have to lift the needles without bending or scratching anything..  Please advise !!  The clocks are close to forty years old and I love the patina !

Love and best wishes to Me !

I have always used dinner fork slipped under the needle and then gently lifted the handle of the fork the needles then pop off. Use some padding between the faces and the fork if you are planning to reuse the clock face.

See - more use for four candles

As Roger said, fork off!
Not sure how you get it back on again though, just press fit?

Glad to hear you are working on the bike, man.

When I was a lad we used  a device similar to a forked springed lifter... I have tried to find one of these !

No chance ..    Are all the craftmen dead these days ??

                  What a shame

We used to shoot them off with a James Bond spy gun Tim. Replacement is easy with a toffee hammer.

You could carefully tie a piece of nylon cord to the needle and tie the other end to a door handle, then simply slam the door..

Works with milk teeth (and in the case of the dial there shouldn't be any blood or any need for fairy funds)  :)

As there is no spline or registration, is there a trick for putting it back in the correct position? I don?t have one in front of me but don?t they stop at a pin like a tacho does? Before I remove a needle (tacho) I check where it reads running on my electric drill on full speed in reverse on the trigger catch and record the figure, then run it there when I set the needle back on.

A needle stop YOU ARE HAVING A LAUGH !!

I just photo copied /xeroxed them that will do for me I was going to adjust the needle "zero" but I don't think I can be arsed

If you have a bit of time and are handy with a file you could make a small puller. Made this for a Smith's chronometric but it works on others as well.

That looks like part of a Victorian period doctors kit for removing god knows what.

Ok - this was the tooth tool but I'm sure it would also work with the needle. She'll make a good partner to someone some day this girl!
