Plug Colour

what's the consensus on optimal plug colour these days? Just been out for a fang in the hills with Terry and now have 2 brown and one black one... Slater Mirage; std spec

depends if in your region you still have leaded fuel or unleaded. Unleaded should be slightly brown, black points to a to rich mixture. Check float-hights and other settings on that carb, especially if the choke slider closes completely and the O-Ring at the tip of the choke jet (the looong brass part in the float chamber that reaches into a small hole in the float bowl) is in place and not worn.

'And one with a little light on'. Means your bike is stuffed Andy :D. Time to get the compression tester and vacuum gauges out methinks.
Nice ride by the way, really enjoyed riding the Mirage.

It's a lot better now that the Phantoms are scrubbed in: will never go back to Bridgestones that's for sure... :D :D 8)

I?m pretty sure that with standard fuels today the only thing you can read from a plug is a problem, not tuning issues. Soot or oil on the plug are just about the only indicators. (Or bits of melted aluminium etc!).
