Pod filters with Mikuni flatslides

I would say to use whatever filters fit. With pod filters you are going to sacrifice filtering performance, no matter which you fit, so no need to fret over the brand. Mine were supplied by Wolfgang -- they are no doubt Chinese knockoffs. I see no reason not to save a few dollars using the cheapies.
I use DNA OVI-5400 filters on the sets I sell, that part number is for one
They normally sell them in sets of 4 and that part number is DNA OVI-5404
Because of their shape you can turn the right side filter 90 degrees and it clears the side cover better, on a 1000 x 180 degree triple
Work well on the 750 engines as well as their shape follows the angle of the upper frame rails
I find the Chinese knock offs to be too slippery and they tend to fall off, you need to rough the ID up where they clamp on

was how the engine arrived in my workshop, you would have seen the same issue I am sureMis-matched cam end covers? Tut, tut, tut...

Took me a few weeks to get the correct cam end covers but were installed before bike left here
They sell a cleaning and reoiling kit, I did mine recently after a good few years of riding including some dirt. I got a surprise at all the fine particulate that washed out of them. They do require oiling. There is a youtube vid of how to clean and oil them. I like them a lot and they work well without any notable performance loss.

From my experience Mikuni Round Slide Carbs accept Air filters and Velocity Cones much better then Square Slide Delortto's - I could never get the performance out of a 30A VHB Dellortto Carb unless it was open mouth with 2 into 1 headers and 32 main jets on my 70 SFO approaching 7800rpm. Anything disrupting the intake into them 30A VHB simply did not work.
I had sets of various Mikuni's on hand but never did experiment with them on my 70 SF as them OPEN MOUTH 30A Delortto's worked.
Change Oil every Season - Sometimes twice a season depending how much I used her ;o)
You are a brave lad playing with Mikuni's on the SF engine - Suggest you play with the Main Jets to see how much she rev's out before bogging down due to richness or learning out at Hi-Revs risk holing a piston ;o(
I had numerous Mechanical Slide Mikuni's from say from 32 to 38's but mostly used them on 2 stroke snow sleds and dirt bikes but kept a set of 34 Mic VHM's for the SF - Sadly I never got the chance to try them using an Air Filter - Still got them if your interested ;o)
