Prices are going up?

Certain makes and models are getting soft. A lot of older English bikes are getting soft, Vincents, Velocettes, pre oil in frame Triumphs,,,,,,
Japanese special models are very strong!

If anyone is interested, there are 3x Jotas coming up for auction soon, at one sale in the UK. Check out Charterhouse Auctions, June 5th, Haynes Motor Museum event. The bikes are '76, '77, and 1980 (last one a late '79 build I think?). All three bikes have reserve estimates, it remains to be seen how they get on....

We'll have an idea of the market for Jota's in the UK.

As I stated before, Laverdas should be appreciated, but this is getting out of control. While I appreciate Laverdas, this situation is becoming excessive, and parts are incredibly expensive; people are asking ridiculous prices for the most mundane things. Like a battery strap for 240 Euros
Keeping a Laverda on the road is much more affordable if you're not a rivet counter. And you can even improve them by negating things like 240 euro battery straps!

I bought a 1200, which was hamfisted, and now the parts are getting a bit over the top. However, I agree that much can be done by yourself. Things like crankshafts, pistons and rings are expensive

I agree, prices are stupid for certain things. The ILOC is trying to get reasonably priced bodywork 3D printed, there are some prototype 1000 side panels on the go at the moment. When I saw the price of an air box at £450 recently I nearly fainted.

Re you battery strap, see a plumber mate. Those big O rings they use in the pipe joints are perfect! Buy you mate a beer, win win!
These O Rings are very usefull and rigid, but in Germany they changed the system. Now the tubes have integrated sealings and tho O Rings are almost not available 🤷🏻‍♂️

In the end there's not much science but just the old question of supply and demand... I'm far from representative and don't proclaim to be a classic motorcycle marked expert, but from what I see here from both BMW and Laverda stuff I'm looking for, reasonably priced stuff (as in; the quality matches the value for a buyer) sells, but when the price is higher than what people are willing to spend on an item it gets relisted and relisted over and over again until it either goes back on the shelf it's been sitting for years or the price is adjusted.

Got my dented GT tank and the early SF tank this way; the latter was fully restored but already painted in white/blue stripe, making a sale much more difficult contrary to a restored one in light primer ready for paint in a colour of your own choosing. Thing is, people who sell things look prices up on the internet and see an old GT tank on offer for 400GBP that's been for sale for ages and use that as a reference. In my case the seller(s) were reasonalbe and we could work a good price for both of us. Doesn't always work that way though, some sellers bought things very expensive a few years back and won't accept a loss despite changing times? Fortunately we all have choice: the seller not do drop the price, and the buyer of not buying.

However, as Paul Marx wrote elsewhere, the value (for me) is in keeping a family piece in the family and enjoying it, not wringing my hands on how many €€€ something is worth. To each his or her own, of course. :)
