Getting my moneys worth out of the technical section!
Just fitting Andy's merc chain, not wanting to remove the jeezus nut, have the clutch cush apart, rubbers removed, with the chain on the inner 2 rows I just can't slip the clutch sproket over it's sleeve. Can only just fit the clutch sproket on with the chain mounted on the outer 2 rows.
It's only a dick hair between fitting and not fitting. Maybe I should try harder.
How do you merc chain users fit yours?? I kind of prefer the inner rows myself. Does it make any difference??
By the way, nice looking chain Andy and thanks to Red for supplying.
Cheers

I managed it, just, after removing the rubbers.
Tight squeeze though-

Rob,
You still have the cases apart, yes ?
just lift the crank up and get your lady to slip the chain in place
then lower the crank back into position

install on inner two rows of teeth

The Merc chain is a better chain than the triplex in many ways, too boring to go into.

Triplex chains are in the main crap today. Most are made to budget form just to keep in
a chain manufacturers range. Even the Tsubaki product changed a few years ago and started giving
problems not only on Laverdas but also Vincents. I tackled them but they denied a change yet when
adapting the product there were some very obvious differences. With modern marking sytems any logo
or name can be put on any product.

I have found the IRIS, not iwis, product good in the triplex form and it works well on Vincents. However
Vincents have to run triplex whereas Laverdas can run the duplex. If you compare the Merc chain to a standard duplex they
are worlds apart. Also compare the "big pin" singles to standard simplex chains........big big diff.

Just installed my Duplex , had the same dramas trying to fit
to inner rows of teeth so put them on outer two rows  :-[
1000klm no dramas yet ???

Will this cause any undue stress anywhere ? and should I
change them to the inner rows ? Has anyone else been
running the chain on outer teeth ?

Hooksey.

I managed to fit it on the inner rows, bloody tight though. Yes Red the cases are/were apart but I wanted to know if it can be done incase I need to remove it later.
If I have to remove that jeezus nut I'd need to go buy a rattlegun. I guess once the chain has bedded in it will go on easier too. I need to buy some new cush rubbers as well. So the top case is on and I'm about to gap the rings.

Technically the inner two rows are best, however as with most things in practice it makes very little if any difference,as Maicos have found.
Also being lighter than triplex the forces are much less. If we were talking inches rather than a few mm it would be a different matter.

The Merc duplex chains have been running on many machines now for some years with no problems. It took a hell of a time to
convince the peeps on here. I am sure that I would have hung drawn and quartered if there been any problems.

Ta Frank but they are not oil holes just a production aid to make sure the bushes are all in the same direction.

I used to run mine on my kart inside out so the hole was on the inside. The Germans insist on it being on the outside.

I just installed the Merc duplex in the inner two rows. Had to take the crank nut off. No big deal.
Beautiful chain

When my Jota was with Keith last year, he fitted one for me...its never been quieter , though I think in part that was due to properly ensuring alignment was spot on..
