Primary Chain

This topic has almost been done to death but I have to say the following.

I recently supplied a Merc duplex to a Laverda owner and being me, got the length wrong
(I cut it then sent the wrong end). He very kindly sent it back with the single chain he had
removed.

Now although the chain he sent was iwis and is a very good product, it was the small pin
industrial version not the big pin automotive.

I have always wondered why Laverda owners changed the chains so frequently, I have heard of
15000 K, and if this chain is used can understand why. The big pin chain is a totally different
beast and I would expect at least 60-80000K.

Another little tip........iwis industrial = dark blue outer plates
                            iwis automotive = silver all through

You'll probably find there's more than just me who machined the redundant middle teeth away (to reduce weight) to run two single chains before you came along with the Merc Duplex..

No probs with that but there is a single chain with big, not small pins.

So 2 singles is not a bad option, just use the right chain, those using Sprockets
