Primary chaincase missing bearing

I've just taken the primary chaincase off my Jarama to fix an oil leak and the rear needle roller outrigger bearing for the gearbox shaft is completely missing. The casing has been welded at some time by the looks of it on the bottom front corner in front of the primary chain tensioner screw. It is covered in epoxy on the inside in that small area but looks good on the outside. I'm assuming this is crash damage because everything else seems fine in there. The leak is probably a result of this repair but as I've put it back together again as is (no choice for now) I was wondering about what damage the missing needle roller might cause. I tried moving the shaft but it doesn't seem to have any play in it. Any opinions and advice would be gratefully received. The motor sounds good by the way.
Regards Pat.

You will probably be lucky and find no damage is apparent, although in theory it would tend to load up the Bushing in the mainshaft sprocket end, which take a bashing anyway, or break the shaft on the RHS in racing conditions.

You could check the bushings by removing the chain and giving the drve sprocket a firm hand, side to side.

More to the point, is why it has been removed or left out,,,,there's usually a reason for everything..good and bad. Is it possible the case is still dented in the damaged area, pulling the bearing centre-line out. Could the casing be depressed around the bearing area. I guess there's only one way to find out, when you fit one, it wont line up, worst case or it will and your motor will be happier.

Can you post a very good picture or series of, so we can put our collective eyes on the case Pat, one of us might see the reason, (dent/distortion) if there is any.
Two or more pairs of eyes are better than one, as they say!.

Just check that the shaft is not out of round, you could quickly know why they had removed the bearing.

Thanks for the replies everyone, It wasn't possible to take any pictures at the time but I've taken the bike out for a short ride and at least there is no oil leak now ha ha!
On a more serious note I took a good look at the casing and it does seem to be dished inwards slightly in the plain area above the Laverda badge although it is not welded or visually damaged in any other way in that area. I've got another casing that I will try to fit when time allows the only problem with that one being cosmetic i.e. blasted and unpolished, Got to be better than bent though  :D

You said it and they're the fastest primary cases !!

On a serious note, it sounds like you've discovered why no bearing is fitted...
