Product of the week

I say chaps....anyone have a new pair of Derri Boots ? But in all seriousness I thought
this ad was a continuation of all the broken bone metal plates that were slickly (?)
advertised in "Classic Bike" awhile ago promoting road safety/sanity. Over here in the
colonies you can buy metal clips that affix to the bottom of your jeans and keep your
pant legs from riding up your calves when your feet are on the pegs. Still doesn't touch
my ALL TIME fave, the overhead surfboard rack from about 1966. Now ,maybe you are
still a fan of Slade and other 70's bands....

I remember seeing a picture featuring that surfboard rack ........ It was a guy sat on a Yamaha DT3 or something trailbike , on the beach , with the surfboard just above his head .......... when I find it I`ll show it ...........

I still have this pair of Derry Boots from way back then, still kept in the garage and used as Wellies on the very rare occasions here when the garden is muddy.
Those, a Rukka one piece oversuit and a pair of Belstaff mitts frequently rewaxed over a pair of thick wool mittens made by my Grandmother were my standard commuting wear in rain in London in the late seventies. Rukka oversuit was best I've had despite no ventilation but was not repairable after a minor tumble cut it. Nothing since has been as rainproof in the crotch.

In our 250 riding teenage gang was a chap, now sadly departed, who sported Derri Boots summer and winter, wet or dry. He was never happy with his brown leather jacket and decided to darken it with Creosote ( the good stuff, not the save the planet type ). Obviously being called Neil he wrote ' Bill the Eagle ' on the back. We were all asked to leave The Rose and Crown in Pulborough follwing complains it was making customers eyes water.

Are you talking about the bitumen-like stuff you paint on fence posts before burying them in the ground? Your kidding.

Not as thick as bitumen Vince but a very strong smelling effective preservative. I expect that jacket is still going strong some 45 years on..
