Purchase advice

76 cylinder heads can be a bit problematic, that model depending on what month it was made have one of the all alloy cylinder head versions so can suffer cracks around the valve seats and into the spark plug holes, all repairable
plus they have the early cam blocks which have a habit of collapsing, remedy is a set of billet cam blocks which we have in stock

Be a nice bike though when sorted, should have the Ceriani front end which is a nicer ride then the later Marzocchi front ends according to a lot of owners

If its a 3c and you can pick it up for 10k and is a complete and original bike then that's a good fair AU price, pencil in around 20 k to rebuild and restore it and that's the real price if you want to ride it, if not then you'll have an ornament in your shed or a piece of shit that you'll be forever chasing fixes on, or you may strike it lucky and, well lets see what eventuates, and BTW Laverda's are cheaper to restore than Norton's, once its Redaxed it'll outlast your saggy old bones... If you dont want it PM me, i know a few that will take it

OK - so the 10.000 are AUS$, which makes it roughly 6.500€. That sounds a bit more realistic. Not sure how the prices are in NSW and what status the bike is in, but if you have experience with restoring a bike, you should be able to judge the value. Red from Redax is the most competent source down there I think, you can get in touch either here over the members list and private message or contact him via facebook:

He can help with parts, machining and even complete restorations. Get some pricing there to see how this fits in your budget maybe ;-)
Red is your man...he did a phenomenal job on my engine

Norton Commando parts prices are tiny compared to Laverda parts prices. Not only that the parts are generally readily available. Check out the Andover Norton site if you don't believe me. I'll make an exception for 850 heads mind you.

By the way, I just sold my Commando in bits for a very decent price, the buyer turned out to be one of the guys who does engineering work on the Spitfires and Hurricanes for the Battle of Britain Flight and guess what? He is another Laverda fan, he used to have a 3CL and then a Jota, real nice guy too.

I did a lot of CNW parts so with the exchange rate at the time it ended up quite expensive but turned out great

Well he got back to me and is happy with the deal so once we work out the logistics of him working away and the two states it's looking good, hopefully I'll have some pics soon and can give a good evaluation once I get it on the bike stand. I'm excited 😊

Yeh I'm keen to do a good job on it and also ride it, if for some reason it goes pear shaped I'll let you know but it's looking good at present. I mainly ride the 750 on club rides and take the 961 for anything overnight or beyond. So it'll be good to have something classic that I can trust for a bit of distance, not that the commando has let me down since the rebuild, but it did quite often before and it's always sitting in the back of my mind.
