Race Tech Emulators 2019

I know a lot has been said about these, but much of it relates to machining of adaptors to fit Marzocchi damper rods.  In the old days I believe this was necessary, but now Race Tech lists adaptors specifically for the Marzocchis on Laverdas.  Has anyone recently kitted out a set using the Race Tech adaptors?  Did they get new piston rings with the adaptors?  What kind of fit are the adaptors onto the rods?  I have been told locally that the adaptors are a loose and leaky fit and so it is better to make your own (i.e. pay said person to do!) but I am thinking this advice might be out of date.  An up to date set of facts would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Max,

according to their webpage, the adapters and the seals can be purchased separately, they are not part of the standard kit:

The best place to get advice on these is Matt the vintage specialist at Race Tech USA. He is extremely helpful. His email address is at the bottom of there Vintage section on their website. Seems my new laptop thinks hyperlinks need to be impossible to link to. I think it needs a little adjustment with a hammer.

Thanks for the input.  Have ordered the kit so looking forward to a transformed bike!

Hi Max,

Would you mind putting up a few pics and a little story of the work, once the parts arrive and you tackle the job?

Regards
Gerald

Light on technical details but some good info on putting Race Tech emulators on an RGS.

Some very good info there, all technical info is accurate EXCEPT. The prices quoted are way way out even for US Dollars. I read this a good few years ago and prices have gone up a lot since then. A set of those shocks are close to $1500 oz and more with all those extras. I found a place in Melbourne that does the hard anodising for approx $100oz, had my Pantahs forks done. I didnt both with changing to powder coating the exterior as the black anodising looks fine to me.

Certainly can put up some details when I do the job - probably next month.  I really like the sound of the hard anodising, makes a lot of sense, so I will probably do this as well.  I expect the pistons on the damper rods will be pretty worn (have vague memories of them looking pretty scored last time I was in there - or was that the twin?) and I can't find new ones, might see if I can get them 'improved' somehow.
